1. A circular disk rotating at 1800 rpm is applied upon by a constant breaking force until its speed
becomes 60 rpm, 10 seconds after the application of the force.

a) What is its angular acceleration?

b) In how many seconds will it come to rest?
c) How many revolutions does it make in 10 seconds?

2. The four particles in the figure are connected by rigid rods of negligible mass.
The origin is at the center of the rectangle. If the system rotates in the xy
plane about the z axis with an angular speed of 6.00 rad/s, calculate:

a) the moment of inertia of the system about the z axis, and

b) the total rotational kinetic energy of the system.

3. Determine the center of gravity of the shaded figure.

4. A holiday decoration consists of two shiny glass spheres with masses 0.0240
kg and 0.0360 kg suspended as shown in the figure, from a uniform rod with
mass 0.120 kg and length 1.00 m. The rod is suspended from the ceiling by
a vertical cord at each end, so that it is horizontal. Calculate the tension in
each of the cords A through F.
5. Find the center of gravity.

6. A roller in a printing press turns through an angle θ(t) given by θ(t) = γt2 – βt3,
where γ = 3.20 rad/s2 and β = 0.500 rad/s3.

a) Calculate the angular velocity of the roller as a function of time.

b) Calculate the angular acceleration of the roller as a function of time.
c) What is the maximum positive angular velocity and at what value of t does it occur?

7. A uniform 255 N rod that is 2 m long carries a 225 N weight at its right end and an
unknown weight W toward the left end. When W is placed 50 cm from the left end of the
rod, the system just balances horizontally when the fulcrum is located 75 cm form the
right end.

a) Find W.
b) If W is now moved 25 cm to the right, how far and in what direction must the fulcrum
be moved to restore the balance?

8. Compute for the center of gravity of the figure.

9. Compute for the center of gravity.

10. A torque of 12 N-m is applied to a heavy wheel whose moment of inertia is 36kg-m2.

a) What is the angular acceleration of the wheel?

b) If the wheel was initially at rest and the torque was applied for 10 seconds, what will
be the angular velocity of the wheel at the end of the 10 seconds?
c) What was the average power in that 10 seconds?
d) What is the total kinetic energy of this wheel in that 10 seconds?

11. At t = 0 a grinding wheel has an angular velocity of 24.0 rad/s. It has a constant angular
acceleration of 30.0 rad/s2 until a circuit breaker trips at t = 2.00 s. From then on, it turns
through 432 rad as it coasts to a stop at constant angular acceleration.

a) Through what total angle did the wheel turn between t = 0 and the time it stopped?
b) At what time did it stop?
c) What was its acceleration as it slowed down?
