PREFERRED ACID CLEANERS / PICKLES

Preferred Acid Cleaners / Pickles

• Acid cleaners / pickles are designed to remove inorganic soils such as rust, laser scale, weld scale and mill scale from ferrous substrates
such as steel. Strong acids are required to remove these alkaline insoluble soils.

• Acid cleaners and pickles include inhibitors in the formulation to protect steel from over-etching while still providing effective removal
of inorganic soils.

• A selection of different BONDERITE® products allows for different acids based on customer preference and pickling requirements.

IRON PHOSPHATE PROCESS

Iron Phosphate Process

TECHNOLOGY OVERVIEW
A non-crystalline, nonmetallic, iron phosphate coating that is chemically adherent to the metal substrate to provide two major benefits to paint
systems: increased paint adhesion and increased corrosion protection. This is a very versatile process which, depending on product selection,
can include stand-alone coater products or combination cleaner/coater products. There are recommended line layouts for manual spray wand
applications and for automated spray washers or automated immersion lines.

ADVANCED ZIRCONIUM PRETREATMENT PROCESS

Benefits of Henkel’s Advanced Pretreatment Process

1. PROCESS
• Reduces the number of process steps, because activation and passivation are no longer
required, while simultaneously reducing contact times. This allows for reduced cycle
times and increased production rates while still decreasing overall footprint of the line.

• Simple control via:

»» Standard Process Control – A robust industrial-proven photometer has been

specifically adapted
»» Robust process with broad operating window, which leads to higher flexibility
Photometer
for monitoring
2. ENVIRONMENT quality standards.
• Reduced Hazardous Waste – BONDERITE® M-NT products are composed of
nanoceramics and are free of nickel, phosphates, VOCs and regulated chemicals

• Sludge formation is marginal, which leads to significant savings in hazardous

waste generation

• Reduced Energy/CO2 – BONDERITE® M-NT products operate at ambient temperatures,

reducing utilities and natural resource requirements (and associated CO2)

• Ambient operation vs. 120°F for Iron Phosphate, vs. 140°F for Zinc Phosphate

ZINC PHOSPHATE PROCESS

Zinc Phosphate Process

TECHNOLOGY OVERVIEW
BONDERITE® zinc phosphate coatings offer high performance corrosion protection beyond iron phosphate, and are compatible with all paint
systems. A surface activation step, known as a conditioner, is required for most zinc phosphate processes and aids in formation of the coating
itself, yielding much better performance.

MANGANESE PHOSPHATE CONVERSION COATINGS

Manganese Phosphate
These corrosion-resistant coatings consist chiefly of iron and manganese phosphates, and reduce wear on such articles as pistons, rings,
liners, camshafts, tappets, motor blocks and similar bearing surfaces. Other beneficial effects are: permits rapid break-in of moving parts
without scuffing or welding by preventing metal-to-metal contact between the bearing surfaces; increases lubrication of treated surfaces
due to the oil-absorptive coating; and removes light metal scratches remaining from machining operations.

BONDERITE® M-MN NFLR2 – Next-generation, environmentally responsible, and lower waste treatment costs with nickel-free version
of BONDERITE® M-MN Lubrite™ 2. Formulated to produce nonmetallic, oil-absorptive coatings on iron and steel-bearing surfaces. These
corrosion-resistant coatings consist chiefly of iron and manganese phosphates, and reduce wear on such articles as pistons, rings, liners,
camshafts, tappets, motor blocks and similar bearing surfaces.

BONDERITE® M-MN Lubrite™ 2 – Formulated to produce nonmetallic, oil-absorptive coatings on iron and steel-bearing surfaces. These
corrosion-resistant coatings consist chiefly of iron and manganese phosphates, and reduce wear on such articles as pistons, rings, liners,
camshafts, tappets, motor blocks and similar bearing surfaces.

BONDERITE® M-MN LT-10 – Lower temperature version of BONDERITE® M-MN Lubrite™ 2 for lower operating costs and increased energy
efficiency. Formulated to produce nonmetallic, oil-absorptive coatings on iron and steel bearing surfaces. These corrosion-resistant coatings
consist chiefly of iron and manganese phosphates, and reduce wear on such articles as pistons, rings, liners, camshafts, tappets, motor
blocks and similar bearing surfaces.
