TITLE: Flagelantes

ARTIST: Galo Ocampo

LOCATION: San Fernando, Pampanga

The painting created by artist Galo Ocampo is an eye-catcher. The main subject of the painting is
a man dressed in somewhat like the men who does ‘penitensya’. In the province of Pampanga,
this image is not new among Kapampangans who are well-known for activities like these during
the Holy Week. It is a method of confessing and repenting to that have been committed in the
past. The background of the painting reveals a familiar scenery which was the Mayon Volcano
while the man who was drawn unproportioned in contrast with the background was standing with
arms stretched showing vulnerability and surrender. I chose this painting because it piqued my
senses to know what is the artist is really telling me with the details like the weird proportions
and background of the subject.
TITLE: Tatanam pale
ARTIST: Rafael Maniago
LOCATION: San Fernando, Pampanga

In the painting made by artist Rafael Maniago featuring the farmers of the vast plains of
Pampanga, realism is a style evident in presenting the artwork. The subject presented is a
common human activity of farmers. The artist emphasized the hard work and dedication of the
farmers by showcasing the simple reality of the life of a normal farmer. I chose this painting
because of the content. The content can be interpreted in a lot of ways. But for me, I see the
painting as an eye awakening situation that perfectly fits the recent news about abuse on farmers.
The reality of being a blue collar worker can often be ignored and a topic to be shrugged off but
in this case, the artist clearly depicts the situation with a more realistic presentation intended to
evoke a sense of awakening to the viewers.
TITLE: Save the World
ARTIST: Edu Perreras

LOCATION: San Fernando, Pampanga

The painting made by Edu Perreras presents the subject in a realistic manner. The main subject is
a girl that has eyes that seems to talk the viewer into something. Her aura seemingly projects a
persuasion motive. The emotions flowing through her eyes are realistic to the point that it
actually leaves a significant impression emotionally on the part of the viewer. I think the
background is inspired by the Philippine flag. On the right side, it features typical Filipinos on
red while on the opposite side it is still the same hardworking people but on blue. The artwork
profoundly tells the viewers the significance of children on the future of the world. We are
investing on the future by letting the children of today grow.
TITLE: Inside out
ARTIST: Claude Tayag
LOCATION: Clark Museum

In the sculpture made by Claude Tayag, kamagong and molave were used as materials in
creating the artwork. It is a simple yet magnificent piece of art. I chose it for its simplicity but
elegant design. It’s vertical and horizontal components adds strength to the simple beauty it
presents. The length and the curved position of the wood is very pleasing to the eyes.
TITLE: Spolarium
ARTIST: Magno Gaza
LOCATION: San Fernando, Pampanga

The sculpture was inspired by the Spolarium made by Juan Luna. It shows almost the same
image as with the original painting however the main difference would be the medium used. This
particular sculpture caught my eye because of its familiarity. In the world of art, I can see that
how an artist portrays his/her imaginations on different canvases or medium does not make a
person less an artist. The subject of the painting tells very much about human activity. It is made
of solid Acacia which amazed me because I often see Acacia as something that only provides
shade on the highways of Pampanga but in this case, it was turned into something beautiful.
TITLE: Musical Instrument Relic

ARTIST: Juan Flores

LOCATION: San Fernando, Pampanga

I personally liked the elaborate design of the wood carvings in this particular artwork by Juan
Flores. I loved how the artist presented the artwork in a unique manner. It was a bit confusing
because of its disorderliness but I like how it tells me that in the midst of chaos I can find beauty.
In this particular art, I can see much more than just the picture presented before me.
TITLE: Hizon-Singian House
ARCHITECT: Unknown
LOCATION: San Fernando, Pampanga

The architectural design of this particular building is brought about by the Spanish era in the
Philippines. I personally love the old designs in buildings, it evokes memories from the past told
by my parents and grandparents. I love the sight of old buildings, it makes me think how all the
time it has endured and the wars it has experienced yet it still stands tall in all its beauty and
glory.
TITLE: Pampanga Provincial Capitol
ARCHITECT: Unknown
LOCATION: San Fernando, Pampanga

The Pampanga Provincial Capitol is the site of government in Pampanga. However, its
architectural design is really worth the sight. I also liked its significance on the war between
local guerilla troops and the Japanese army during the World War II. I am amazed at how it is
inspired with the foreign architectures from Greece. The tall columns and the wide façade is
really something to love.
TITLE: Holy Rosary Parish Church
ARCHITECT: Unknown
LOCATION: Angeles City, Pampanga
The design of this religious building have never failed both the church attenders and commuters
to gaze upon its beauty. The building has been preserved for a lot of years so Kapampangans
have given this church a special place on their hearts. A lot of memories have been made on this
site so it’s a really unforgettable place. I love the aesthetic feels of its design and also its
sentimental value among people.
