I. Hypothesis
The study focuses on testing the effect of the different
coffee extracts on the growth of Succulent plants. The
researchers hypothesized the following:
1. Different coffee forms would make the aloe vera
plants grow faster than aloe vera plant with no
coffee.

2. The liquified coffee could make the aloe vera grow

faster.

3. The plant with all types of caffeine would make

least effect.
II. Abstract
Plants are essential to our daily lives. But the common
problem is it takes time for it to grow healthy. There are cases
wherein the plant requires a long period of time to grow. The
purpose of this research is to help the farmers or even people to
know the effects of caffeine in the growth of the plant and will
the caffeine help the plant grow faster. The researchers wanted
to know if caffeine is helpful to plant growth. This study aims
to determine which type of caffeine would make the succulent
plant grow the fastest. In this study, four different textures of
caffeine will be added to the soil (liquified, Powdered, Coffee
bean and all types of caffeine) and one of the soils bas no
caffeine added to it. Every week, the researchers will observe
and measures the length using a ruler for each plant and records
the results. The researchers will observe the differences of each
plant every week. after weeks of observation the researchers
observed how the caffeine affected the speed of the growth of the
succulent plant. Through our observations we observe that the
plant with powdered coffee grew faster and the biggest among the
four and other plants remained the same. We observed that the
plant with all types of caffeine turned into brown and the height
remained the same. we conclude that powdered coffee is helpful in
plant growth however, you still need to maintain your plant for
it to grow healthy. sometimes the acidity of the caffeine can
affect the color of the leaves of the plant.
III. Introduction
The researchers decided to conduct a study on what
different coffee extract is the most effective and helps
the plant grow the fastest. This project aims to help
farmers, or even the people, know what coffee extracts
will help the plant grow faster and how to do it without,
the use of chemicals

IV. Review of related literature

According to Oliver Grundmann Aloe vera, commonly known
as Barbados or Curaçao Aloe, is an herbal medicine with a
long tradition of use by a variety of cultures. The
succulent plant grows in arid and subtropical climates
and is best known for 2 distinct preparations: the clear
mucilaginous gel that is widely used for the treatment of
minor burns, especially sunburns, and the thick sap of
the leaves that turns yellow-brown and has strong
laxative effects that caution its use. The traditional
uses of the clear mucilaginous gel are manifold, ranging
from topical applications to reduce perspiration to oral
dosing for diabetes and a range of gastrointestinal
ailments. The efficacy of aloe vera gel to treat burn
wounds, genital herpes, and seborrheic dermatitis have
been shown in clinical trials, but other indications such
as psoriasis or internal application for the treatment of
type 2 diabetes remain inconclusive. The main limitation
of the current clinical knowledge about aloe vera gel is
small clinical studies that often lack rigorous
methodology. Several clinical trials are being conducted
to further evaluate the use of aloe vera gel for a
variety of disorders, as well as to further confirm
traditional uses of the plant extract.

According to Euphrasie N. (2011), the effects of caffeine

on plant growth is still a subject under study. Using
grounded coffee in garden lawns is a common practice to
make plants grow faster. However, coffee also contains
other ingredients like potassium and phosphorous, which
are known to enhance plant growth. Experiments on plant
growth using only caffeine have resulted in the plant
leaves becoming wrinkles, turning brownish and exhibiting
retarded growth. Three authors, hèlène Boucher,
Antoinetta Gensale and Pauline Lau conducted an elaborate
study to determine the effects of crushed-up caffeine
tablets on the growth of soybean plants. They created a
caffeine solution by dissolving the equivalent of 2 ½
tablets (250mg) of caffeine in about 2 cups of tap water.
These authors concluded that their mixture led to
negative effects such as stunted growth, discolored
leaves and stems and less sturdy or hardy plants. Another
author who writes about the effects of coffee on plants,
Rajiv Sighamony, recognizes that there are two schools of
thought on this subject: those who don’t think coffee
will affect plant growth and those who do. For those who
do think coffee can help plants grow, he reminds us that
it is difficult to determine whether it is just the
caffeine in coffee that is making the difference or the
fact that coffee also contains potassium and phosphorus.
Sighamony acknowledges that many public gardens use
leftover coffee and coffee grounds to accelerate plant
growth. On the other hand, he warns that using coffee
beans will have a detrimental effect. Caffeine, a
chemical stimulant, increases the biological processes in
not only humans but plants as well.

According to Andrew Aloe Vera plants grown indoors will

take 3-4 years to grow from a pup to a full-grown plant
with mature leaves of around 8-10 inches (20-25 cm) in
length. To encourage fast growth, make preparations
before planting, ensure you’re providing optimal care,
and boost the growth rate with fertilizer.
VII. Materials and Procedures

 Soil (3 gallon)
 Ruler
 Coffee bean (two full spoon)

 Liquified coffee (50grams)

Figure 2:
 Powdered coffee (two full spoon)

Figure 3: Cocoa Powdered Coffee

 10 Pots

Figure 4:Ice cream containers used as pots

 Aloe vera (10 pcs.)
Figure 5: Aloe vera plant
 Water (100ml)

Figure 6: 100ml of tap water

1. Fill the Ten pots with 3 gallon (11L)

2. Plant the aloe vera per pot then mix the different textures of
coffee into the first three soils using the gardening tools.

3.Label each pot with the plant that has no coffee, powdered
coffee, liquified coffee, and coffee tablet using masking tape
and marker
4.Pour 100ml of water into every pot

4. Place the 10 pots in a place where equal sunlight is

distributed, measure each plant for 3 weeks and list down
all research.

5. The growth of the plants will be measured/showed found on

the following apparatus: length, mass, color.
V. Results and discussion

According to the table, the plant who got the highest

measurement after one week is the plant with powdered coffee
followed by the plant with liquified and coffee bean. The plant
with all types of caffeine and has no caffeine added to it
remained the same. the researchers added the color of leaves
because sometimes the acidity of the caffeine can affect the
color of the leaves of the plant

TABLE 2

RESULTS AFTER TWO WEEKS

According to the table, the plant who would be the highest

measurement after two weeks is the plant with powdered coffee
followed by the liquified and coffee bean. All types of coffee
and plant with no coffee remains the same. The leaves of each
plant was still healthy.

According to the table, the plant who has the highest measurement
after 3 weeks is the plant with powdered coffee but we observed
that the leaves of the plant with powdered coffee turned into
brown same as the plant with all types of coffee.
XI. Conclusion
After the performance off the experiment and through
analysis or results, the researchers arrive at the following
conclusion. The researchers conclude that the most helpful in
growing the aloe vera plant faster is the plant with powdered
coffee then followed by the liquefied coffee. Hypothesis 1
approved which is the Different coffee forms would make the aloe
vera plants grow faster than aloe vera plant with no coffee.
Hypothesis 2 rejected which is the liquified coffee would make
the aloe vera grow faster. Hypothesis 3 approved which is the
plant with all types of caffeine would make least effect.

X. Recommendations
The researchers would like to recommend this project for those
who are interested in planting plants with different caffeine in
it. This project could help each other by exploring new things.
This project is also helpful for other research purposes similar
to the research. However, the exposure would be nice if we have
more time. It is recommended to use equal amount of different
textures of caffeine in each plant. It is recommended to use same
sources for all of the caffeine and only put a small amount of
caffeine in the plant so it won’t affect the color of the leaves.
According to some research Epsom salts, baking soda, and
household ammonia can be combined to create a fertilizer that
helps plants maintain healthy foliage and stimulates growth
