In this section of the test you will have the chance to show how well you understand
spoken English. There are four parts to this section, with special direction for each
part.
PART I
Directions : For each question, you will see a picture in your test book and you will hear
four short statements. The statements will be spoken two times. They will not be printed in
your test book so you must listen carefully to understand what the speaker says. When you
hear the four statements, look at the picture in your test book and choose the statement that
best describes what you see in the picture. Then, on your answer sheet, find the number of
the question and mark your answer. Look at the sample below.

PART II
Directions: In this part of the test, you will hear a question spoken in English, followed by
three responses, also spoken in English. The question and the responses will be spoken
two times. They will not be printed in your test book, so you must listen carefully to
understand what the speakers say. You are to choose the best response to each question.
The best response to the question “How are you?” is choice (A), “I am fine, thank you.”
Therefore, you should choose answer (A)

PART III
Directions: In this part of the test, you will hear four short conversations between two
people. The conversations will not be printed in your test book. You will hear the
conversations two times so you must listen carefully to understand what the speakers say. In
your test book, you will read a question about each conversation. The question will be
followed by four answers. You are to choose the best answer to each question and mark it
on your answer sheet.
PART IV
Directions: In this part of the test, you will hear several short talks. Each will be spoken two
times. They will not be printed in your test book so you must listen carefully to understand
and remember what is said. In your test book, you will read two or more questions about
each short talk. The question will be followed by four answers. You are to choose the best
answer to the question and mark it on your answer sheet.

Reading Section
PART I
Department stores in the capital region, suffering from a prolonged slump in sales, are
changing tactics by marketing new products and making their displays more interesting.
Some stores are reducing the amount of the floor space devoted to name brands in
order to display more of their own house brands. Others are using existing floor space for
their own specialty shops. Still others are targeting special segments of the populattion-
business men in their 20’s for example.
Stores that are developing their own brands are able to offer quality clothing at 30
percent off name –brand prices. They also have increased flexibility in responding to shifting
market trends.

This dishwasher might look intimidating, but it’s really quite easy to use. Start by taking an
empty dish rack and load the dishes so that none of them are touching each other. Place the
rack at the opening of the machine and hit automatically feeds through the machine. Check
the dishes when they come out on the other side and if they aren’t completely clean, run the
rack through the machine again. When they’re done, take the disdes out and stack them on
the dish cart.

At the age 40, Tom Bloch was the head of H&R Block, a huge company that helps people
prepare their tax forms. He was very successful. Although Bloch earned a lot of money, he
did’t have enough time to spend with his family. Suddenly, he left H&R Block and became a
teacher in a poor neighborhood. “I wanted to help people who didn’t have the opportunities I
had,”Bloch explained.
Learning to control the students was hard at first. But the rewards – helping children and
hearing students say he’s their favourite teacher
