Bog Child – Part 3

Read Chapters 31, 32 and 33 (pages 210-227) and answer the


questions that follow. Most of the questions, are bronze however you
may aim for the silver or gold medals 😊
Chapter 31

1. Find a descriptive image from nature on page 210 and write out the quote.
What sense(s) does the image appeal to and how?
2. List the four reasons Fergus has to be angry at the beginning of this
chapter.
3. On page 212, Fergus mentions that the place is ‘Bedlam’ due to the
troubles. Using the internet, look up the history behind this word and
write down 2 facts you find. Why do you think he uses this
word?
4. What lie does Fergus tell Owain about Joe?
5. Write down 4 new words that you came across and look up their meaning.

Chapter 32

1. Find three pieces of evidence that suggests that Mam is stressed and
anxious.

OR

2. ‘Mam has become disillusioned by the political conflict and


the situation with Joey’. Do you agree with this statement?
Explain your response using PIE.

Chapter 33

Imagine that you are Fergus, write a brief diary entry (about 10 lines) in which
you detail your thoughts and emotions after hearing about the bomb.

Success criteria:

 Include the date in top right-hand corner (remember what period in


history this is!)
 Begin with: Dear diary, (and skip a line)
 Use ‘I’
