The plot is thoroughly developed. The story is interesting and logically organized: there
is clear exposition, rising action and climax. The story has a clear resolution or surprise
ending.

FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE/MECHANICS 25

Uses carefully chosen figurative language to help the reader visualize.

There is an appropriate amount of dialogue (internal or external) to bring the


characters to life and it is always clear which character is speaking.

There are few or no errors in grammar, usage, mechanics, or spelling. Dialogue is


punctuated and formatted correctly. (unless for effect)

OVERALL EFFECT 25
The story contains many creative details and/or descriptions that contribute to the
reader's enjoyment. The author has really used his/her imagination.
