1. Discuss briefly the scenario / events / reading.

In the morning, we were told that we will be going around the Nursing
Department to be able to get a grasp of what it is like to be a Nurse. Our group was first
to be given the chance to go around and have an introduction about nursing. We first
went to the room containing several models of male and female reproductive organs.
The models are made silicon and some are made from harder materials. During that
time, we were also taught on how to locate a lump on a woman’s breast to identify if it
needs further examinations for it may be a potential risk. Next, we went to other rooms
with other models and equipment for examination. There were models/mannequins that
show a woman’s body when they are pregnant and how an infant is able to get out.
There were also smaller models with the size of dolls which shows the different types of
casts and tractions. We were also able to get inside an operating room where we are
also able to observe different body parts specifically the internal organs. We also get to
experience being in the operating room and “operating” on a patient. Next, after the
tour, we were also able to attend a seminar which is hosted by nursing students with a
professional nurse as the guest speaker. Through that seminar, we were able to identify
and learn about the different types of nurses and what it is like working in the medical
field. During the afternoon, we were also able to know the different types of first aid as
well as the actions and types of carrying for injured patients.

2. How do you feel about it? (You may include comments)

As an aspiring medical student, it feels great to actually get to learn about
many new things. It is exciting especially for me because being a nurse is actually one

of my choices in college. Until now, I’ve been considering it because I think it is a bit
more flexible than the other fields. Still, I want to know more about it to be able to decide
on what career or course I will be pursuing in the college. To be honest, I also plan to
work as a flight attendant and being a flight nurse has an advantage to work in airline
companies. I also think that being a nurse can land you different jobs in the future just
like being able to work in airline companies as a flight nurse. Even though I want to work
on airlines, my heart is still on the medical field that’s why I want to pursue a career in
that field. Being able to have more knowledge about this specific career gave me a lot of
realizations as well as thoughts regarding my future. Though it is many, they are all
positive and I know can it help me to decide.

3. What have you learned from it?

During the tour and the seminar, I have learned that there are still many
things to learn about being a nurse. Being able to know how they work and what they do
make me respect them even more. Through this immersion, I have learned that nurses
have many specializations and they are more than what people thought they were. They
are professionals who aid us and help us in our recoveries. Their specialties and their
knowledge make them flexible enough to handle any job given to them. They can run
tests, give patients their medications, monitor them, and many more. They are saviors
of life. They can do many things and be great at them. I have also learned that nurses
do not work on hospitals only. They can work on airline companies, in any company,
and they can also be entrepreneurs. They are the people that we can trust our lives with
in travels, and even just on a normal day. I have also learned that being a nurse is hard,
you can face a lot of things and sometimes your family can be at that situation to, but
you still have to be professional and be strong enough to still help others. There are
also nurses that help surgeons during operations and they are also in charge of helping
and taking of mothers and their babies before and after pregnancy. We were also able
to learn how to assess situations as well as the conditions of parents by looking and
observing. We have learned that there different colors that indicate the parents
condition and the needed attention for their injuries. Through those, the other it will be

faster to act and give aid to the patients. We have also learned how to carry patients
with different injuries. Through those, the patient’s condition will not get worse and the
risk of getting hurt will be minimized.
