Philippines is widely known to be under the “for the people, and of the people” government

wherein people rules and their ideologies were valued. As part of this growing identity, it is
essential to exercise democracy alive by means of valuing the principle of freedom of speech
and expression.
The freedom of expression is the foundation of exchanges of views and opinions among people
without censorship or fear of retaliation by the government. It inspires citizens to deepen their
belongingness with the outside forces and to develop thoughts by assembling pieces that have
been previously hidden from public view.
Having the chance to react, voice out our oppinions and being addressed is higly valued as it
was been strengthen in the “Bill of Rights” however, this chance comes with responsibility and it
is directly attached to its intention. Undoubtedly, we have to established first a secured identity
before our words to be weighed and that’s the reason that made me conclude that freedom of
expression ismore of a privilege and not a right to be reserved. Moreover, not everyone can say
anything that he or she wants rightaway. Not everyone in fact can say anything in any given
time, and that certain expressions will and should always be prohibitted due to its context.
Nevertheless, it is a priviledge that people should earn-- it comes with your identity and
responsibility; free speech that leads to violence and harm of others makes the person complicit
in the deed.  If what you say brings harm to another person, then you should be held
responsible; and if that person has been well discipline for a good portion of their life, they will
be able of saying anything they wish as long as it is not offending to a public official or that it is
any false propaganda. But if the person have done wicked, a giant question mark hedged.
Criticisms were rightaway molded at the back the minds of other people and were being judged
and concluded as somehow falsely.
Yet it doesnt end there, people’s conviction will paved the criticisms away. What we just have to
do is to choose what is right and helpful. Pursue as long as we know what we are doing and as
long as this move will contribute for the improvement of many.
Taking it a bit personal, I am part of “Ang Medalyon”, the official publication of my former school,
San Jose National High School. In there, we were customed to dig reality amidst confusions and
to highly raise unbiases to certain issues. Being part of that institution, we were been developed
to possess great power- of credibility and ifluence. Our duty to seek, inquire, investigate and
serve the truth were already been engraved in our hearts and I do practice it even up to my
college journey. By means of my capacity and by my freedom of speech, I empower not only
myself, but also other people that surrounds me and more specifically those individuals who’s
been blindfolded by false realities.
Indeed, it started from self fulfilment but as i go and grow though, I am witnessing an impact to
other people and to the society. Practising these ideals was taken from a single step of being
heard, followed by making difference and now a ride to nation-building as it aims to unify
the people with same ground of freedom and rights within the state, so that it
remains politically stable and viable in the long run.

We, who run over our voices build the forces that bear upon acts that must be righted,
a situation that must be fixed, an evil that must be overthrown, or a need that must
be met for the betterment of our nation. We should not be muted, not anymore!
So i’ll start here.
