ECLIPSES
Introduction:
An eclipse is an astronomical event that occurs when a celestial body such as a moon or a planet moves into the
shadow of another heavenly body. There are two types of eclipses on Earth, an eclipse of the moon and an eclipse
of the sun.

Objectives: During the activity, you must be able to:


a. explain how solar and lunar eclipses occur;
b. differentiate solar from lunar eclipse.

Materials: Pencil, Ballpen, Coloring Materials, Textbook

A. Labeling. Identify the areas in the diagram by coloring the parts. You will be guided by the color representations
and their definitions below.
Earth (Blue and Green) – The planet in which we live.
Moon (White) – The natural satellite of the Earth.
Sun (Yellow) – The biggest star in our Solar system.
Umbra (Black) – The portion of a shadow wherein no light reaches from the source of light source.
Penumbra (Grey) – The portion of a shadow where a portion of light from a light source reaches the
opaque object in between them.

THE PHILIPPINES AS AN ARCHIPELAGO
Introduction:
The Philippines is an archipelago that comprises 7,641 islands with a total area of 300,000 square
kilometers. It is the world’s 5th largest island country. The eleven largest islands contain 95% of the total land area.
The largest of this islands is Luzon. The archipelago is around 200 kilometers from the Asian mainland and is
located between Taiwan and Borneo.

Objectives: During the activity, you must be able to:


a. describe the location of the Philippines with respect to the continents and oceans of the world;
b. identify the landmasses and bodies of water surrounding the Philippine archipelago
