Miss Herbert’s Philosophy of Education

Teachers must create close and personal relationships with each and every
student. Each and every student is different and unique in their own special way as they
come from various backgrounds. It is important that a teacher knows where each child
comes from and how to build a safe and secure relationship with them. Creating this
relationship allows growth and respect in the classroom.
When building close and personal relationships with each and every student, it
builds the education that is being taught and the respect for the teacher in the classroom.
It builds a successful environment for students to learn all in their very own way. It
allows the students to make mistakes and have self-correction lessons. Building these
connections requires the teacher to be open and set expectations of the students from the
very beginning of the school year.
Being open and setting expectations for all the children at the beginning of the
school year is important for every teacher to do. When students know their teacher and
the teacher knows their students it allows for an open relationship. The students respect
their teacher when they know their teacher is a person, who has feelings and can make
connections with. Setting the expectations from the beginning of the school year sets the
boundaries of the relationship and shows respect for both the students and the teacher. It
is valuable in the classroom of what is expected and keeps the students and teachers on
tasks to make a productive classroom environment.
Along with being open with the students, it is crucial to be open with parents,
staff and grade team members. Connecting and building strong relationships with the
adults as well creates a web of people who are there to help the teacher. Teachers using
their resources allow growth in their work. Gaining advice from other teachers, staff and
parents creates a successful classroom for all students to learn. While connecting with
others gaining information, the teacher is also helping others by giving ideas, insight and
answers to questions that they may have as well. Communication is key for a teacher who
is working in the classroom.
Philosophy’s are constantly changing, but it is important to always build close
relationships with all individuals within the school. Setting clear expectations and
understanding each and every student is different and special in their own unique way.
Having a relationships and clear communication will create at successful classroom.
