ASSUMPTIONS OF ART

Universal
Art is universal. Every society with their unique culture has their own art
which is encouraged and moulded by the patronage it gets from its members. Artists
as members of the society create such work of art in accordance with the existing
relations in the society. Every work of art is an amalgamation of various ideas
circulating in the society. Political, economic and social changes are directly reflected
in these cultural aspects which are not often deliberate but become part of the
activity. The veracity of the argument could be seen in the emergence of various art
trends historically synchronizing with new developments and changes in the society.
The relation between art and society is a factor with which art can be considered as
universal.
Communication
It is both the spectator and the artist who make a piece truly art: the artist must
convey an emotion, and the spectator must receive it. Art in this sense is
communication; it allows people from different cultures and different times to
communicate with each other via images, sounds and stories. The existence of art
plays a dual and somewhat conflicting role. On one hand, art is a statement of
individuality, the brainchild of a single mind. On the other hand, however, art is a
statement of the common bonds between all humans, its serves to create a sense of
community, of something greater than just one mind. The creation of artforms such
as painting, sculpture and crafts are all forms of art as long as they convey emotion
to the viewer and a human conceives the original idea for their creation

Cultural
Art is the reflection of culture in physical form and the various ways in which
particular culture can be communicated to the rest of the world. Examples are the
artistic activities which are always in part cultural, involving shared and learned
patterns of behavior, belief, and feeling. These artistic activities and artforms that
can be found in any culture like sculpture, painting, architecture and many others
are unique to the culture in which they are found. Like culture itself, the art that
comes as a result is endlessly variable in application, it can represent change,
spirituality, economic independence, ways of life or any other number of things

Expression
Art is a creative form of expression that translates, acknowledges, reveals and
transfers ideas and feelings from the viewpoint of a person who creates it. It expresses
in ways in which words effectively fail. From the viewpoint of the person who creates it,
art expresses feelings and ideas and from the viewpoint of the observer it evokes
feelings and ideas. According to modern interpretation, the artist portrays things as he
‘sees’ them, and so in many instances he must express the misery and injustice, beauty
and ugliness, which are part of his vision of life. Thus, it is a form of self-expression that
manifests the artist innate character, beliefs and values by transforming these things
into a form. Art expresses as a result of the intricacies of life, as a result of humans
continually searching for meaning, making meaning out of lived and observed
experiences and attempting to connect to other humans (Camic, 2009). Art -in the past
and in the present, even still-continuously strives to establish an understanding of the
unknown, to name the unnamed, to mark the ordinary and to dignify our existence.

Experience
Arts have an important place in modern society; in fact, theses have had a great
influence on his existence right from the dawn of civilization. While man generally
concerns himself with the bare necessities for survival, he has never considered the
mere continuation of existence of a sufficient goal. Man is in part a creature who
thinks and decides, but he is perhaps primarily a being with feeling and with a wide
range of responses. His emotional reactions and feelings need to be cultivated and
refined along with his thoughts. These reactions and feelings belong to the realm of
aesthetic experience. It’s a man’s aesthetic sense that enables him to make
judgements, favourable or unfavourable, on artistic works, that is, on what he sees,
hears, or reads. Aesthetic experiences are basic and fundamental to art and that
which does not have aesthetic value cannot be termed as art. That is to say, the art
express beauty which is satisfying to our senses.

Form of creation
Art is a form of creation as it is a product of human invention and human genius.
When we speak of culture, we are not talking about something strange or highbrow;
we are talking about something that derives from human invention. Artforms and
artistic activities are some examples with which we could incorporate art as a
creation. The artist coupled with his perception about the world and his vision in life
basically manifests these inner aspects in his masterpieces, which are in visible or
tangible in form.
