2.Identify the institutions that govern international
relations. Do you think these institutions can affect the
relationship of different states? How?

The institutions that governs the international realtions

are:

1. International Non-Governmental Organizations (INGOs)

These are international nonprofit organizations
that perform public functions but are not established or
run by nation-states. They are private, voluntary and
nonprofit.

2. CARE International
It is a global force and partner of choice within a
worldwide movement concentrating their efforts on ending
poverty.

3. World Wide Fund for Nature

With its partners, they work together to formulate
and implement lasting solutions to the environmental
challenges we are facing today.

4. Greenpeace
An independent organization that uses nonviolent,
creative solutions to expose environmental problems, and
to force solutions for a green and peaceful future.

5. Amnesty International
A global movement of more than 7 million people who
take injustice personally.

The aforementioned institutions operate

internationally, so they can affect the relationship of
the different states. These institutions lie on the
network of connection of the states, therefore they can
either pull the states together or bring them apart.
TOPIC 5: CONTEMPORARY GLOBAL GOVERNANCE

Activating Prior Knowledge

Did you experienced to participate in different

organizations? As a member of a particular organization,
what are your roles? How does your organization
functions? Does your participation contribute to the
success of your organization?

As an active student and a writer, I have joined

various organizations with their own goals. As of now, I
am a member of the official student publication of CSU
Carig, The CSU Promethean. I am currently the Junior
Photojournalist of the publication. The publication has
and editorial board which composes of more than 40
student members, from the EIC down to the writers and
each perform their tasks accordingly. But their
responsibility is not limited by their title, they can do
jobs on other fields if required. For example, I am a
photojournalist but my function does not end in taking
photos but I also have to write news and other articles.
And with the concentrated efforts of everyone in the
organization, there is success.

Feedback

1. The GA is the most representative organization in the UN,

but why does does the Security council (SC) is considered to
be the most powerful organ in the UN?

2. If the states refuse to cooperate, what will happen to UN?

The United Nations serves as the peacekeeper of
countries as it was created to prevent global wars and the
states neglect its presence, there is a possibility that
disputes between countries can occur. If this occurs, UN
will be disbanded since it did not function according to the
reasons why it was established.

3. Why is it tough for the UN Security Council to release a

formal resolution?
The Security Council is the most powerful among the
organs of UN, however, its immense power should be
critically and carefully executed as this should prevent
subjectivity.
4. Do you think United Nations can intervene with Duterte’s
war on drugs?
United Nations serves to protect human rights,
therefore, it has every right to intervene with Duterte’s drug
war since human right is aggressively violated.

Reflection

1.“Economic globalization does not always work and does not

immediately work in the interest of all. There are always
sufferers” –Amartya Sen
Globalization affects everyone’s lives, whether
positive and negative. As there is progress, there are those who
are left behind. we are living in a technological era right now,
there are those who suffer since they do not have this. An
example of this is the situation of the farmers, without
knowledge and machineries, they stick to traditional farming
instead of modern one so they end up harvesting lesser quality
and quantity of crops.

2.“Don’t find customers for your products; find products for

your customers.” Seth Godin
Customers are always right and a good businessman knows
what his customer needs and must put it first. This products
are helping us every day, so it is only fitting that new
products are something we need.
3.“If we will not devise some greater and more equitable
system, Armageddon will be at our door.” General Douglas
Mcarthur

A country should devise a system that will suit

everyone, and they must see to it that their lives will not
be degraded due to this. Poor administration can spark
rebellions and sometimes can result to the destruction of a
kingdom.
4.If we want peace, we must reform, restructure and strengthen
UN. – Dr. John Logue

It is a pity that our peace right now is only the

result of shutting up your mouth, and following whatever the
government say even if it somehow does not see our current
situation. There should be more to this, there should be
more humanity, consideration and undying passion for the
people.
UN should be recognized more by countries’ leaders
specially Duterte since he rejected the investigation of UN
on his drug war. UN is the peacekeeper of countries that is
why it must be revamped.
