1. INTRODUCTION:
Bangladesh Railway has assigned CTM JV to construct a railway box culvert for dual gauge
double rail line and conversion of existing rail line into dual gauge between Akhaura and Laksam.
During construction one pile has been shifted by Dd = 0.761 m where Dx = 0.69m (along pile cap)
and Dy = 0.32m (out of the pile cap). CTM JV notify it to consultants and consultants requested
CTM JV to justify the adequacy of the structure due to this shifting of the pile by design
calculation. CTM JV has engaged soil and structure to check and find the solution for it.

2. SCOPE OF WORKS:
The scope of the works is limited to check and design of the consequence of shifting the pile
from its original position.

3. REFERENCES:
- The previous calculation and design has been used as references to complete this design.

4. ANALYSIS SOFWARE:
- STAAD Pro 2006 SS6 has been used to check the load on the pile due to dislocation during
construction.

5. LOAD CALCULTION:
5.1 Dead Load

Dead loads are all the self-weight of the structural member. Super dead load is also taken in
consideration. This load has been taken from the previous approved calculation. this is
desicribed in chapter 6 in the previous calculation as follows-
Super imposed dead load = 492 kN
Selfweight of the structure = 41770 kN

5.2 LIVE LOAD:

Force for the locomotive has been considered as live load. It has been taken from chapter 6 of
the previous approved calculation which is given below -
Total live load = 2665 kN

5.3 TOTAL LOAD:

Total loads are the summation of the super dead load + selfweight of the structure + Live load
from locomotive. It has been taken from chapter 6 of the previous calculation which are given
below.
Total load = 492+41770+2665 = 44927 kN

5.3 LOAD ON THE PILE:

Total load will be carried by 5.0 nos of the wall where we can assume the influence area of the
outer wall will be the half of the ineer wall.
Total load = 492+41770+2665 = 44927 kN
So load on inner wall = 44927 /(0.5+1.0+1.0+1.0+.05) = 11231 kN
Total Length of the wall = 38.60m
Load on the inner wall = 11231/38.6 = 290.95 kN/m
Length of the wall upto expansion joint = 11.045 m
Total load on this part = 290.95*11.045 = 3214 kN.

A small finite element model has been developed to find the reaction of the pile. Then it is
designed by analyzing as strurt tie model.

Thou the pile is has been dislocation by 315 mm wall is completely above the pile. So no
additional moment and shear force will develop for this dislocation. However due to this
shifting additional moment will be in the pile.
The moment, M = P*e
Where M = bending moment
P = gravity load on pile = 1438 kN
e = eccentricity = 315 mm
So Moment M = 1438*315/1000 = 453 kNm
Ultimate moment, M = 1.5*453 = 680 kNm
Pile reinforcement design shall be checked for Pu = 1.5*1438 = 2157 kN and Mu = 680 kNm
Design has been checked by software SP column. The output is given in annexure-A

9. CONCLUSION:
A comprehensive analysis has been done by staad pro and all the members are found
adequate to resist all kinds of dead load, live load and lateral load. Again base plate, RC
Pedestal column, pile cap and pile are also designed from analysis reaction from staad pro.
So overall structures are safe enough to withstand in any adverse conditions.
