·The Laser Beacon LB-4 is designed to serve your needs in a wide variety of applications. It is
the proven tool for increased production with substantial reduction of labor, time, and mate
rial costs. The LB-4 can be used to accurately control land leveling. sloped or level grading,
trenching. open cut mining, dredging, contouring of levees, construction, and excavation.

This manual contains operating and set-up procedures for common applications. Its purpose
is to describe the features of the LB-4 and how the LB-4 operates. This manual is not
intended to describe specific applications. Contact Laser Alignment, Inc. or your distributor
for information specific to your jobsite requirements.

There are four basic LB-4 models, 7000, 7100, 7200, and the 7250. The LB-4 models 7000,
7100, and 7200 are Class IT Laser products. The LB-4 model 7250 is a Class ill A laser
product. All LB-4 models use a laser diode. See the model descriptions on this page and the

Section I - Introduction

Models 7100, 7200, and 7250 are true dual grade lasers - you can enter one or two grades
simultaneously without calculating new azimuth angles or grades. The two axes are at right
angles to each other. These models are capable of producing up to +11.00% grade in both
axes. For steep grades such as embankments, the "B" axis of the Model 7200 and 7250 can
be adjusted up to +50.00% (1 :2) slope. Other features include:

• Variable Speed Rotation. The laser Visible Laser Beam. For added flexi
diode head assembly can rotate at bility, the laser light can be seen by the
0,5, 10, 12, or 20 revolutions per human 'eye as well as detected by
second (rps) when powered by its machine-mounted and hand-held laser
battery pack or at 0, 5, 10, 12, 20, or receivers.
40 rps when powered by a 12 V DC
battery.

Section II - Safety Information

SAFETY INFORMATION

This laser product complies with all applicable U.S. Federal laser performance stan
dards and European lEG guidelines in existence at the time of manufacture. See
Section X for complete details about safety.

Laser Alignment, Inc. has taken great care to produce a quality product Take the following
precautions to ensure long life and proper operation. Avoidance of these precautions will
void the warranty.

• Do not use a generator or alternator as a source of power for the LB-4.

'., • Do not, under any circumstances, start or run the engine of a vehicle while its battery is
connected to the LB-4.

• Do not connect the power cord to a 24 Volt source.

• Use the proper cable for your the LB-4. Altering a proper cable or using an improper
cable can cause internal damage to the LB-4.

• Do not use the LB-4 in explosive atmospheres.

Note: The user of the LB-4 is expected to follow all operating instructions, periodically
checking the instrument and the work as it progresses. The manufacturer and its distributors
and agents, assume no responsibility for improper control of work.

Precise Alignment of Axes

Note: Under most conditions, the sighting scopes on the LB-4 are adequate for alignment of
the axes. However, for precise alignment use the following procedure.

Objectives: • To establish a Point X on the A-axis as a reference point.
