Dose / Dose Area Product VacuDAP – OEM duo

Measuring Chamber 458 00 15

Application
The VacuDAP – OEM duo measuring chamber determines the radiation level a patient is exposed to in radiological
diagnostics, especially if a combination of fluoroscopic and radiographic units are used. The following values are
measured simultaneously:
 Reference air kerma (RAK)
 Reference air kerma rate (RAKR)
 Dose area product (DAP)
 Dose area product rate (DAPR)
 Irradiation time (cumulative)
The VacuDAP – OEM duo meets the requirements for dosimetric indications according to IEC 60601-2-54,
IEC 60601-2-43 and 21 CFR 1020.32 and the requirements for dose area product meters according to IEC 60580.
Because of the high digital resolution the measuring system can be used for pediatric and standard methods.
At the VacuDAP duo measuring system the measuring chamber is completed by a display unit. Alternatively the
VacuDAP - OEM duo measuring chamber can be used with a host computer (i. e. PC or X-ray generator).
The measuring chamber 458 00 15 consists of a ionization chamber and the integrated electronics. By means of
interchangeable guide rails, the measuring chamber is pushed into the accessory support at the radiation outlet
end of the beam limiting device. Different adapters are available for the application of additional filters. The ioniza-
tion chamber is highly transparent and does not affect the functionality of the light beam diaphragm.

Response correction
The response of the ionization chamber is affected by the radiation quality and the air density. Graphs 1 and 2
show the respective correction factors.
The measuring chamber features an automatic function for tube voltage correction (see Instructions for Use, Instal-
lation Instructions Data interface). The temperature dependence of the air density is automatically corrected.

If the measuring chamber is used at altitudes above 300 m the systematic error
caused by the change of air density depending on the altitude has to be corrected.

After installation the calibration should be tested at installation conditions (see Instructions for Use). The obtained
calibration factor includes the correction for the altitude. If a calibration test at installation conditions is not possible
the correction can also be done by taking the respective correction factor k2 from Graph 2 to correct the calibration
factor.
