3. Using the Daily QC Phantom

3.1 Preparatory Work for the Daily QC Phantom
1 Filling the Daily QC Phantom with distilled water
Remove the cap and pour distilled water into the reservoir through the inlet. Fill the
Daily QC Phantom with distilled water.

Inlet

When it is hard to pour distilled water into the reservoir due to air inside, remove
the air vent screw for easy filling.
Air bubbles in the Daily QC Phantom can be removed relatively easily if adding
the surface active agent (e.g. Fuji WELL, Kodak PHOTO-FLOW of
concentration 0.1%, etc).

3 Using the Daily QC Phantom

2 Tightening the cap and air vent screw

Tighten the cap and air vent screw securely and wipe off water drops attached to around
the Daily QC Phantom thoroughly. Also check that there is no water leak.

Mounting the phantom with water leak left as it is can cause a failure of the CT
system.
Tightening the cap or air vent screw too much can cause damage of the Daily QC
Phantom. Tighten them to the extent that there is no looseness of the screw and
no water leak.

3.2 Scanning the Daily QC Phantom

Start scanning the Daily QC Phantom after confirming that the warming-up of the CT system
and air calibration are completed and the system is ready for normal scan.

3.2.1 Setting a scan protocol and scan parameters ・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・

Set a scan protocol for the Daily QC Phantom. Set the scan protocol of abdominal parameters
and save it.
The method of setting the scan protocol and scan parameters is found in the ECLOS Instruction
Manual "Radiography".

Setting and saving the scan protocol and scan parameters should be carried out only
when the Daily QC Phantom is scanned for the first time.

3 Mounting the Daily QC Phantom on the phantom mounting bracket

So that air collected in the reservoir does not return to the phantom, hold the Daily QC
Phantom with the reservoir upward and mount it on the phantom mounting bracket
attached to the tabletop.

Phantom mounting bracket

Before using the Daily QC Phantom, be sure to check that there is no water leak. If
using it with water leak left as it is, a failure of the CT system can result.

Mount the Daily QC Phantom with the reservoir upward. If the phantom is set with
the reservoir downward, air enters the phantom and a correct image may not be
acquired.

Positioning mark

When the positioning mark and light localizer are apart largely, adjust the height of
the tabletop.

7 Adjusting the height

Adjust the height of the Daily QC Phantom.
Turn the height adjusting dial of the phantom mounting bracket to adjust the height of the
Daily QC Phantom so that the positioning mark aligns with the light localizer.

When the positioning marks at the left and right sides do not align with the light
localizer, the angle of rotating direction is not correct. Turn the Daily QC Phantom
again to adjust the angle of rotating direction.
When the position cannot be adjusted even if fully turning the height adjusting dial,
adjust the height of the tabletop and use the height adjusting dial to adjust it again.

8 Adjusting the left/right position

Adjust the left and right position of the Daily QC Phantom.
Turn the left/right adjusting dial of the phantom mounting bracket to adjust the left/right
position of the Daily QC Phantom so that the positioning mark at the top of the Daily QC
Phantom aligns with the light localizer.

9 Checking the position of the Daily QC Phantom

Check that the positioning marks at three locations of the top and left/right sides align
with the light localizer. This completes positioning.

The positioning mark should align with the light localizer within 2mm. If a
deviation is too big, a correct slice image may not be acquired.

A.1 Entering the CT number
When the Daily QC Phantom is used for the first time, the CT number of each peg needs to be
entered in the CT number label.
Measure the CT number to be a reference in the following procedure after completing
installation and various adjustments, and enter the CT number in the CT number label stuck
near each peg of the Daily QC Phantom.

1 Scanning the Daily QC Phantom

After performing Warm up and Air Calibration, scan the Daily QC Phantom five times.
For a scan procedure and scan parameters, see Section 3.

2 Checking the CT number of each ROI

Use the Daily Check ROI to check the CT number of each ROI, and confirm that CT
numbers of all five frames scanned in Step1 are within the range in the table shown
below.

A, B Water 0.0 ±10.0

|A - B| Water (Uniformity check) 10.0 or less
C Teflon +930.0 ±60.0
D Acrylic +125.0 ±10.0
E Polyethylene -55.0 ±15.0
F Air -1000.0 ±20.0

3 Entering the CT number of each ROI in the CT number label

For the CT number of Teflon, Acrylic, Polyethylene, calculate a mean of five images
respectively and enter them in the CT number label.
Ex.) Teflon: 937.13 / 935.42 / 934.58 / 934.71 / 935.43
(937.13 + 935.42 + 934.58 + 934.71 + 935.43) / 5 = 935.454
In this case, enter "+935" in the CT number label of Teflon.

When entering the CT number in the CT number label, use a oil felt pen so that the
values entered do not vanish.
