Lower Lake

Lower lake is one of a breathtaking gift of the nature. Located in the city of lakes,
“Bhopal”, it is surrounded with the majestic hills, classic and authentic architecture.
Lower lake also known as Chota Talab is separated from Upper lake by an
overbridge called Pul Pukhta. The lake was constructed in 1794, under the
commission of Chote Khan, a minister of Nawab Hayat Muhammad Khan Bahadur.
The place is popular for nature lovers and experience seekers. Lower lake has no
source of freshwater hence it receives water seepage from the upper lake. It makes
Bhoj a wetland along with the upper lake. The lake presents a panoramic view yet, it
suffers from pollution from the sewage which is depleting the water. The
government is trying to resolve the problem of pollution and is taking steps to keep it
clean and healthy. Situated in the peaceful surroundings, the lower lake is a
beautiful remnant of the great Mughal empire.

One can enjoy here from morning walk to weekend trip, it is a perfect escape for the
people. It is spread over an area of 9.6 sq. km and has a depth of 10.7 m. The
beautiful appeal of the lake is adorned by the glorious Kamala garden. The MP
tourism Boat club offers boat activities for adventure lovers like paddle boats, sail
and motor boats. Lower lake along with the magnificent upper lake has given this
city the title as “city of lakes”.

The beautiful and charming lake is surrounded by the human settlements from all
sides. Local transportation modes like buses and auto rickshaws can be taken to
reach the lake as it is situated within the city.

Timings to see the beautiful view of this lake is from 9am to 5pm and there is no
entry fee, one can spend a quality time for about one hour.
