Summary of the Unit 1: “Identities: Fit For Life”

The theme of this unit is Identities, which is developed in 3 topics, Lifestyle, Health,
and Wellbeing. This is focus, on building a healthy identity in young adults, because health,
centers on the causes of stress, the wellbeing, on ways to manage it, and lifestyle on advices
about ways of enjoying life.

As mentioned, health talks about stress that is based on physical health especially in
young adults. This can be caused by a break up on a relationship, an arrival of a new family
member, a change of a school, a confusion of sexual identity, death of a loved one, a
divorce of parents, financial worries, getting or causing some pregnancy, some health
problem in the family, trouble with grades, working while studying, among others. This
stress is dangerous because, in the long term, it can cause physical and emotional problems,
because it causes diseases like cancer, lung problems, this makes you look older, and it also
weakens your immune system.

Young adults can learn how to deal with stress, with some advices, like avoiding
consuming caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine, that can increase your levels of stress, also they
should get more sleep, so they can relax while trying relaxing techniques. But the most
effective advice is to start doing physical activity, that is to say, exercise. Because teenagers
get to control their weight and have stronger muscles, this will also make their skin better,
and more importantly, it would improve their mood and have more brainpower, and
consequently, all of this will make them lose stress.

Finally, in this unit, you get to see suggestions on how to live a good life. Because
first of all, you have to set priorities in your life, so you have to live in the now and stop
worrying about the future. While you do that, you have to concentrate on your passions, be
clear on your goals, be spontaneous, because that would make you learn how to appreciate
life´s simple pleasures while learning about different things. Another thing you can do is
that you may want to travel to distant places, where you can help and assist others.

And all the things you have learned, you can communicate through a personal letter,
or an email, these are ways to inform another person about some personal matter, especially
the personal letter because it’s really short, you can use an informal language and it has a
not complicated structure. On another hand, emails are also another informal way to
communicate with people, because you get to write it on an informal language, and also
you write it using some expressions at the start ad finish, also, you have a lot of structure
you can use to write it.
