Remember: For Multiples think Multiplication Tables

Lowest Common Multiple (L.C.M.): These are the multiples that given numbers have in
common.

E.g.

➢ 8 is a multiple of 2 and 4.
➢ It can be said to be a common multiple of 2 and 4
➢ Numbers such as 16, 24, 32 and many others are multiples that 2 and 4 share
(common multiples) but the lowest is 8

Example: The L.C.M of 4, 5 and 8 Example: The L.C.M of 4, 5 and 8

Prime: 2,3,5,7,11
Times-Tables Method Ladder Method

4:- 4 , 8 , 12, 20, 24, 28, 32, 36, 40, 44, 48 2 4,5,8
5:- 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50 2 2,5,4

8:- 8, 16, 24, 32, 40, 48, 56, 64, 72 2 1,5,2

5 1,5,1
1,1,1

L.C.M. = 2 x 2 x 2 x 5 = 40

Step 1: Divide each Number given using

Prime Numbers (factors).
Starting with the smallest factor if
possible. At least one number on the line
must be divided.

Step 2: Continue dividing by the prime

numbers until the last line has only 1’s

Prime Number = 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13 etc

Exercise 1: Find the L.C.M. of the following using Multiplication Method
