Mission
Statement
The mission of the Valadez Middle School Academy
Counseling Program is to empower students to strive
toward success in their academic and personal
endeavors and to aim high in planning for their
futures. The school counseling program will provide
academic, social-emotional, and career planning
support to all students regardless of race, ethnicity,
sexual orientation, or socioeconomic status. We
believe in strong collaboration with students, staff,
parents, and community members to ensure the
success of all students. Our program will provide the
necessary support in order for Valadez students to
gain the knowledge, skills, and insight to be life-long
learners and responsible citizens5.

Goals &
Objectives
The goal of the Valadez Middle School


Academy Comprehensive School Counseling
Program is to decrease the chronic
absenteeism rate from 9.9% to the district
level of 7.3%1 by the end of the academic
school year as measured by attendance
data. Within the comprehensive program, the
goal of our Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions is to
educate at-risk students on the importance
of attendance to further reduce chronic
absenteeism as measured by pre- and
post-intervention surveys and by participant
attendance data.

The objectives are to:
○ Support all Valadez students in their social-emotional and academic needs
○ Utilize evidence-based restorative practices as a model for behavior interventions
○ Collaborate effectively with teachers, support staff, parents, and community
resources
○ Demonstrate and instill our school’s shared core values of: Respect, Responsibility,
and Resiliency5
○ Provide an appropriate and rigorous curriculum with high expectations for
achievement
○ Prepare all students for their futures in academics, college, and the world of work
○ Tackle the achievement gap between groups by addressing issues of equity and
equality
○ Assess the barriers to learning and provide creative solutions and accommodations
when needed
○ Seek professional development opportunities to stay informed of best practices
and current trends within the field
○ Ensure ethical delivery of services by credentialed school counselors
