Abstract — A dual band dual polarized planar slot antenna

using coplanar waveguide (CPW) feed is presented in this
work. The proposed antenna consists of a pentagonal shaped
ground slot and a rectangular radiating patch. The radiating
patch is modified into an inverted F-shaped structure with an
additional stub connected at the lower diagonal end of the
radiating patch, accounting for dual polarization
characteristics. An inverted L -shaped fractal slot is embedded
in the radiating patch for improving the return loss of the
antenna. Presented antenna exhibits dual band characteristics
with lower band circular polarized and upper band linear
polarized. The circular polarized lower band extends from 3.4
GHz – 3.8 GHz while linear polarized higher band extends
from 6.2 GHz – 6.8 GHz, thereby, can be used for S-Band and
C-Band applications.

I. INTRODUCTION
Multiband antenna exhibiting multiple polarization
characteristics assists the communication system by Fig.1. Schematic view of proposed antenna
improving antenna compactness and providing polarization
diversity. In [1] a dual band antenna operating in GSM band
and WLAN band is proposed with dual polarizations i.e.
lower band circular polarized and upper band linear
polarized. In [2] another dual band antenna is proposed with
both bands circular polarized. In [3] a triple band antenna
using stacked patch has been studied, exhibiting both circular
and linear polarizations. In [4] a dipole like structure is
studied with tapered arms and an open ended slot, resulting Prototype I Prototype II Prototype III
in dual band antenna with lower band circular polarized and
upper band linear polarized. Similarly in [5] a sector shaped
coaxial fed antenna with truncated corners has been
introduced to integrate both linear polarized and circular
polarized characteristics in the same antenna. But these
reported techniques for achieving dual polarization have
major constraint of large geometrical dimension. In this letter
coplanar waveguide is used as a new variant for obtaining

Schematic view of the proposed antenna is shown in fig.1 Fig. 2. Steps for improvement of antenna
along with its geometrical dimensions displayed in Table I.
The presented antenna is a 40 mm × 40 mm structure having

a 50Ω feed line of width 3.2 mm, spaced at 0.4 mm from the
ground plane. The proposed antenna consists of a pentagonal a b c d e f i k l m

key feature of the proposed antenna. Three rectangular stubs
