REACTION PAPER

IN
(INTERVIEW SA OFW AT SA MGA ANAK)

After viewing the video about “Interview sa OFW at sa mga anak”, I’m pretty sure
you will appreciate your OFW parents more than ever. Truthfully, we know for a fact that
we must sacrifice for our children’s future. It’s just sickening to know that they don’t
have many opportunities here in the Philippines. As a result, they need to leave their
families to earn a living. It’s painful as they miss out on their children’s special occasions
such as childhood, adulthood, graduation, birthdays, and even weddings. The video
demonstrated what parents lose from sacrificing and what children really want from their
parents. I cried. I felt thier pain. I was speechless. I couldn’t utter a word of
encouragement.

This part of the video struck me the most “How do you feel about your mom
working at abroad? How do you feel? she very sad because she cannot see her parents
every day, sometimes she doesn’t love her but she said that she loves her”. This is my
opinion, when parents are working in irregular times zones, they can have devastating
effects on their development and happiness. These problems are aggravated when
parents have depressive symptoms low parent quality, low parent interaction and
intimacy, and low support for the home environment. Likewise, if you are not properly
separated from work, the chances of experiencing some form of depression will
increase considerably. Yes, these issues need to address. The rights of the child are
broadly categorized into survival, development, protection and participation with the
family as the primary duty-bearer. Parental care is undoubtedly important, but when one
or both parent/s is/are away, there will surely be a reconfiguration of the roles and lines
of responsibilities.
