What is cell ?
The cell is the basic structural, functional and biological
unit of all known living organisms. Cells are the smallest
unit of life that is classified as a living thing, and are
often called the "building blocks of life".
Interphase
Mitotic Phase
Cytokinesis
CELL CYCLE
Interphase: during which the cell grows & accumulates
nutrients needed for mitosis and duplicating it’s DNA.
Mitotic (M) phase: Inwhich the cell splits itself into two distinct
cells, often called "daughter cells.
In mammalian cells
S phase last ~ 6-8 hrs.
G2 ~ 3-4 hrs
G1 is variable
DNA synthesis is restricted to S phase
Whereas, protein synthesis occures
throughout the interphase.
CELL CYCLE
Quiescent/senescent/G0/Gap 0 :
Cells that have temporarily or reversibly stopped dividing
Interphase:
Gap 1, Synthesis & Gap 2
Cell Division:
Mitosis & Meiosis
CELL CYCLE
Quiescent/senescent/G0/Gap 0 :
Nonproliferative cells in multicellular eukaryotes generally
enter the quiescent G0 state from G1 and may remain
quiescent for long periods of time, possibly indefinitely (as
is often the case for neurons).
A resting phase where the cell has left the cycle and has
stopped dividing.
Thus, during this phase, the amount of DNA in the cell has
effectively doubled, though the ploidy level of the cell
remains the same.
CELL CYCLE
Gap 2/G2 Phase:
