A. Preliminary activities
a. Greetings

“Good morning, class! How are you

today?” “Good morning, sir! We are fine,
thank you!”
b. Prayer
“Please stand up. Let us bow our
heads, and let us pray.
Dear God, thank you for this day.
Please guide us in our lessons, and
give us strength to learn our lesson
for today. In Jesus’ name we pray,
Amen. “Amen.”
Please be seated.”

c. Attendance checking “None, sir.”

“Is anyone absent today?”

d. Classroom management
“Kindly check your surroundings,
and/or under your chair, and pick up
the litters around you. Please check
also if your chairs are well-arranged. “Yes, sir!” (The students will do what
Thank you.” the teacher asks accordingly.)

“Let us set some rules in our class

today. First, everyone is allowed to
talk/express their opinions, as long as
it is related to our lesson. Next, no
phones allowed so that you can focus. “Yes, sir!” (The students will do what

“Very well! It seems like you are now

ready to go through our next topic!”

f. Motivation/introduction “Yes, sir! We are ready!”

Let’s break the ice!

Good job class! Let’s have another ice

breaker. I am going to sing a song to
the tune of My toes, my knees, my
shoulder, my head but I am going to
change the lyrics to make it relevant
to our topic. I’ll sing it first then sing “Mitosis in cell is very important (3x).
with me when I repeat. For us to develop and grow.” (The
class will sing together.)

Mitosis Song: Mitosis in cell is very

important (3x). For us to develop and
grow.
B. Lesson Proper
“A common misconception is that the
cell cycle and mitosis are
synonymous. Mitosis is just one part
of the cell cycle. Now, what is
Mitosis? Please read.”
“Mitosis is the phase of the cell cycle
where the nucleus of a cell is divided
into two nuclei with an equal amount
of genetic material in both daughter
nuclei.”
“Very well! Mitosis is essential for the
growth of the cells and the
replacement of worn-out cells.
Abnormalities during mitosis may alter
the DNA, resulting in genetic
disorders.”

“Do you have any questions?” “None, sir.”

“To further understand, let us learn

the features of Mitosis. Please read.” “1) in each cycle of Mitosis, two
daughter cells are formed from the
parent cell.”

“Good. What else?” “2) The cell division is also known as

equational cell division because the
chromosome number in the parent
cell and daughter cell is the same.”

“That’s right! And?” 3) In plants, mitosis leads to the

growth of vegetative parts of the
plant like root tip, stem tip, etc.”
“Great! Lastly, please take note that,
segregation and combination, do not
occur in this process.”

“Do you have any questions?” “None, sir!”

“The process occurring during mitosis,

have been divided into different
stages. What are they?”

“Interphase, Prophase, Metaphase,

Anaphase, Telophase.”

“Very well! Right before prophase, the

cell spends most of its life in the
interphase, where preparations are
made before the beginning of mitosis.
However, since the actual process
involves the division of the nucleus,
the prophase is technically the first
stage of this process.”

“Let us now learn the different stages

of mitosis occurring during cell
division.

1. Interphase
Before entering mitosis, a cell spends
a period of its growth under
interphase. It undergoes the following “1) G1 Phase: This is the period
phases in interphase. What are before the synthesis of DNA.
these? 2) S Phase: This is the phase during
which DNA synthesis takes place.
3) G2 Phase: This is the phase
between the end of DNA synthesis
and the beginning of the prophase.”

Very good! Next, we have the:

2. Prophase

“Chromosomes start to condense and

the nuclear envelope disintegrates.
Nucleolus disappears.”
What do you observe?

Right! Next, we have:

3. Metaphase

At this stage, the microtubules start

pulling the chromosomes with equal
force and the chromosome ends up in
the middle of the cell. This region is
known as the metaphase plate. Thus,
each cell gets an entire functioning “Next is the anaphase, the splitting
genome. phase, sir!”

What else?

4. Anaphase

That’s right! The splitting of the sister

chromatids marks the onset of
anaphase. These sister chromatids
become the chromosome of the
daughter nuclei. The chromosomes
are then pulled towards the pole by
the fibers attached to the kinetochores
of each chromosome.
“Telophase, sir. In this stage, the
How about the last stage? nuclear envelope starts forming
around the chromosomes.”
5. Telophase
Correct! The chromosomes that
cluster at the two poles start
coalescing into an undifferentiated
mass, as the nuclear envelope starts
forming around it. The nucleolus,
Golgi bodies and ER complex, which
had disappeared after prophase, start “Telophase is followed by
to reappear. cytokinesis, which denotes the
division of the cytoplasm to form two
Now, what happens after telophase? daughter cells. Thus, it marks the
completion of cell division.”

“None, sir!”
“Good job! Do you have any
questions, so far?” “Yes, sir!”
“Let us now learn the significance of
mitosis. Are you ready?” *students’ answers may vary*
“Why do you think mitosis is
important?”

I listed out some significance of

mitosis here. Please read one and
share your insights about it.

1. Mitosis is responsible for the

development of the zygote into
an adult.
2. Equal distribution of
chromosomes to each
daughter cell.
3. It is responsible for the growth
and development of an
individual.
4. It maintains the constant
number of chromosomes in all
body cells of an organism.
5. Mitosis is required for asexual
reproduction, vegetative
propagation in plants and is
also responsible for the repair
and regeneration of damaged
tissues.
6. Mitosis helps in maintaining the *In this part of the lesson, the
purity of the genome as no students shall read the statement

takes place. Students’ answers may vary*

C. After the lesson

a. Application

The teacher will ask the students to

group into 4. Each group will be given
a certain stage of mitosis to work on.

Direction: Make an illustration or

model of your chosen stage of
mitosis. Use any material you see *The students will group themselves
around you. Be resourceful and and will do the activity accordingly*
artistic!

b. Generalization
“In a sheet of paper, write a brief
summary of what you have learned
today on the topic Mitosis. Express
your thoughts (in your own words) on
why and how mitosis is important to “Yes, sir.”
your life. You can share your output in *The students will do the activity*
