GSUSA & STRIDE Activity

May 18th 5:00 – 8:00pm

Introductions and Group Activity (40 minutes)


LEADER: All
I. Introduce Leaders & STRIDE
II. Group Fitness and Stretching
a. Exercises
b. Stretching
III. Explain activities and split into groups
a. Assign wrist bands to girls to split them into groups (done by
GSUSA)
i. Should be 5-7 in each group (5 separate groups)
IV. Nutrition Question
a. Thought provoking question that can be answered by the end of
the event
i. Question:
1. What are some things you can do every day to keep
yourself healthy?
No Materials Needed*

For each of the following activities, leaders will spend the first 3-5 minutes
with some kind of intro and getting to know the girls a little bit.

Activity #1 (25 minutes)


LEADER: Tara
I. My Plate
II. My Plate activity
a. Identify the food groups and discuss serving sizes
b. Cheerios serving size activity
c. Make a balanced sample snack together:
i. Yogurt parfaits OR
ii. Trail mix
Materials:
- Any small food items we would need for the food preparation
- Large Pictionary-like paper pad and a marker or white board and
markers
- Cheerios
- Small bowls for each girl to use
- Measuring cups
- Food models and foods

Activity #2 (25 minutes)


LEADER: Camille
I. Talk about use of sunscreens
II. Talk about Vitamin D
III. Cancer
IV. Sunscreen activity
Materials:
- Different forms of sunscreen (zinc oxide, normal, clear zinc oxide, etc)

Activity #3 (25 minutes)


LEADER: Ali
I. Talk about stress and as a group identify what causes stress
a. Effect of stress on the mind (emotions)
b. Effect on body
II. Identify healthy stress-relief activities as a group
III. Discuss sleep and stress
IV. Activity:
a. Meditate ~5 minutes

Activity #4 (25 minutes)


LEADER: Haley
I. Present on sugar and sugar sweetened beverages
II. Talk about sugar and caffeine on sleep
III. Caffeine/ Sugar/ Starbucks Activity
a. Show them how much sugar is in certain beverages with
sugar cubes
Materials:
- Sugar cubes
- Variety of beverages

Activity #5 (25 minutes)


LEADER: Tayler
I. Introduce key functions of the body and why to keep it healthy
a. Keep generic
II. Body Positive Activities/ Body Affirmations
a. Have girls list things about a body part
i. Discuss more positive things they could have seen in
themselves
b. Talk about functionality of body parts as opposed to
appearance
Materials:
- Maybe a skeleton or drawing of the body/muscle/bones to describe
functions of them

Wrap-up/Ending (10-15 minutes)


I. Open Panel for the girls to ask questions about what they
learned/college/careers/ect
II. Re-ask the nutrition question
a. Get them to interact and show what they learned from the activities
