Effectiveness of Online Staff Development Reflection

In my online course I created an activity where the participants had to create their own
Frayer model using Keynote. This activity is in module 2 of the online course. The participants
created the Frayer model on Keynote, took a screenshot of their Frayer model, and uploaded it to
a dropbox on Google Forms. This was the first way that I evaluated how the participants were
doing in the course. All of the participants did a great job on their Frayer models in Keynote. The
second way that I evaluated the participants was through an assessment in module 3. The
assessment consisted of 7 questions about Keynote and how to create a Frayer model in Keynote.
The participants got most of the questions correct on the assessment. There were two questions
that the participants missed. Two people missed the question “Where does text show up on the
screen when you click on the text icon?” This was talked about many times throughout the
course. One person missed the yes or no question “When using Keynote, are you restricted to the
types of shapes that you can use?” Maybe this person just got confused with the wording of the
question. Overall, I was very satisfied with the results to the assessment.
I created a evaluation survey for the participants to complete also. This survey was on a 3
point scale. One represented unlikely or disagree, two was somewhat likely or somewhat agree,
and three represented very likely or strongly agree. The participants read each statement and
answered the statements using the 3 point scale. After reviewing the response to the evaluation
survey, most of the participants felt comfortable using Keynote after the staff development.
Some even said that they would be changing assignment in their lesson plans to incorporate
Keynotes.
Looking at the results from the assessment and the evaluation survey that the participants
completed, I feel like the staff development went well. I feel like the participants learned from
the staff development. I also feel like they were eager to implement the things that they learned
in their own classrooms. If I could change anything about my online staff development it would
be to show the teachers with younger students examples of how they can use Keynote in the
classroom. I felt like they got intimidated with creating the Frayer model, because they thought
that that task was too hard for their students. I would make this change before implementing this
online staff development again.
