Your community is made up of the people who live and work in
your area. The people, or citizens, who live in your community may need help. Community helpers are firefighters and police officers. They are also postal workers and bus drivers. Some are doctors or nurses. All of these people keep your community strong. Each community helper does an important job. Firefighters put out fires and teach about fire safety. They can also rescue people or animals if they are hurt or trapped. Police officers help to keep the community safe. They make sure people follow the laws, or rules. Police officers protect people from bad things. Sometimes, firefighters and police officers have dangerous jobs. Postal workers help people keep in touch with others. They deliver letters and packages. They make sure that each piece of mail is delivered to the right person. They also collect mail and bring it to the post office. Bus drivers drive to bus stops to pick people up or drop them off. They help people get to different places around town. Both men and women can be community helpers. Maybe one day you can be a community helper, too.
