DEFINING YOUR COMMUNITY
Now that your group has a chosen advocacy/topic, another essential step in developing your online-
based advocacy project proposal involves defining “your community;” you must be explicit about whom you
think your “community” is; whose voice needs to be heard? For the purpose of this exercise, will your
“community” involve all children in your city? Will it involve a subset of those children? Be very specific
about defining what population “your community” entails.
DIRECTIONS: Your paper should contain a 250-word background information and description of your
chosen community. Even though you belong to one group, your thoughts should differ individually.

ANIMAL RIGHTS, MORAL OR LEGAL RIGHTS GRANTED TO NON-HUMAN ANIMALS, TYPICALLY DUE TO
THE NATURE OF THEIR COGNITIVE, EMOTIONAL AND SOCIAL LIVES OR THEIR CAPACITY TO FEEL
PAIN OR PLEASURE PHYSICAL OR MENTAL. HISTORICALLY, DIVERSE INTERPRETATIONS OF THE
MEANING OF ANIMAL RIGHTS HAVE EXPRESSED PHILOSOPHICAL AND LEGAL TRENDS, SCIENTIFIC
DEFINITIONS OF ANIMAL AND HUMAN EXISTENCE, AND THEOLOGICAL AND ETHICAL CONCEPTIONS
OF THE PROPER RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ANIMALS AND HUMANS. THE COMMUNITY ARE THE
ANIMALS AND THE FAMILY WHO ARE WILLING TO HAVE PETS WHO ARE RESCUED AND TREAT THEM
AS THEIR OWN FAMILY. THE CHILDREN WILL HAVE A BIG ROLE IN THE ADVOCACY BECAUSE THEY
WILL BE ENGAGES THROUGH EDUCATION AND AWARENESS EFFORTS, AN EXAMPLE IS ARRANGING
OF VISITS TO LOCAL SHELTERS AND SCHOOLS WHICH THE CHILDREN WILL LEARN ABOUT THE
ACTIVITIES AND BECOME SENSITIZED IN CARING FOR ANIMALS. THE INVOLMENT OF MORAL
COMMUNITY IS A MUST. THE ANIMALS ARE THE ONES WHOSE VOICE SHOULD BE HEARD BUT HOW?
THROUGH THE PEOPLE, SPECIFICALLY THE CHILDREN. THEY CAN DEVELOP COMPASSION, RESPECT
AND BE RESPONSIBLE AS YOUNG AS THEY ARE. BECOMING THE VOICE OF THE ANIMALS WILL HELP
THEM TO FEEL SAFE AND LOVE. I ALSO WANT TO DEVELOP A DIVERSE AND PASSIONATE GROUP OF
CHILDREN ALL STRIVING TO IMPROVE THE HEALTH AND WELL-BEING OF ANIMALS, HUMANS AND THE
ENVIRONMENT WE SHARE. ALSO, WITH THE HELP OF THE COMMUNITY THE ADVOCACY WILL
PROVIDE TIMELY AND RELEVANT PRODUCTS AND SERVICES THAT WILL HELP THE STRAY ANIMALS.
MOST IMPORTANTLY TO PROMOTE THE COMMUNITY TO NO- KILL POUNDS AND SHELTERS.
