COMPARATIVE EVALUATION OF TRANSPORT PROPERTIES OF

SHOTCRETE COMPARED TO CAST-IN-PLACE CONCRETE

Abstract:

Civil Engineering is an extremely large and ever-dynamic branch of activity. The study of the
properties of concrete with a view to improving it is only a small part of it. It is in this same dynamic
that we have conducted studies for the comparative evaluation of the transport properties of shotcrete
compared to that of Cast-in-Place-Concrete which are here two distinct technical of concrete
implementation. The importance of developing a fundamental of the comparative transport
properties of shotcrete compared to conventional cast-in-place concrete was to lead to an easier and
more appropriate choice of the various modes of implementation according to the uses. Resistance
to weathering, corrosion, alkali aggregate reaction, carbonation and freeze-thaw deterioration,
chemical attack are the main factors affecting the durability of concrete and thus influenced by the
transport properties of the cast-in-place concrete or shotcrete during the service life of the structure
they are applied to. To achieve our study, determination of the transport properties was based on
tests conducted according to: • ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) C6421:
Density, boiled absorption, and volume of permeable voids, the ASTM C12022: Electrical
indication of concrete’s ability to resist chloride ion penetration; the ASTM C17923: Rate of
water absorption (drying test) and the Ionic migration test to U.S. Navy Specification.
