Dear Admissions Committee,

I have known Aashutosh personally for the last four years and I have been his IB Diploma
Programme physics teacher for the past two years, during which I have learnt a great deal about this
young man. It gives me great pleasure to have encountered him as his teacher.

During my first meeting with him, Aashutosh seemed like a fairly intellectual and humble child,
almost like any other average student that I met. Little did I know, however, that this was far from
the truth. He approached me and explained to me that he was a tennis player and was aiming to
play competitive tennis at a collegiate level. I was extremely impressed by this but was unsure if he
could keep up with the demanding physics course and the Diploma Programme in general while
spending the majority of his time on tennis. However, he displayed his intellectual capabilities by
scoring impressive grades on the class tests and exams, showing great skills of time management
and balance between both his academics and tennis. During classes, he showed laudable
understanding of the topics discussed and had great interest to know more. He was also the school
topper during the 2017 IGCSE examinations by securing 7 A*, a marvellous achievement for a
sportsman.

Aashutosh has completed up to Grade 7 in the Trinity plectrum guitar examinations and has also
completed the highest grade (Grade 5) in the ABRSM examinations for descant recorder. Moreover,
he was selected in 2016 for an ABRSM high scorers’ concert in the state of Tamil Nadu, for his superb
musical talent. His wide range of accomplishments does not end here. Aashutosh has participated in
the ‘Indian Robotics Olympiad’ and served as the captain of his team. This honed his problem solving
and leadership qualities. He also displayed great communicative and debating skills by receiving an
honourable mention during the Model UN that he participated in. Aashutosh was elected as the
head boy of the school student council, a role that he took responsibly and helped organize and
coordinate events such as ‘International Yoga Day’ and the ‘Interhouse Competitions’.

Aashutosh’s training as a tennis player has also been significant, with him being ranked in the top
1350 internationally and top 80 nationally. He has both reached the finals and won several
tournaments in the national and international tennis circuit. Apart from being a major role to his
physical fitness, Aashutosh explained to me that playing tennis has also taught him vital skills such as
persistence, concentration and hard work. These attributes are evident with his behaviour in the
class room and his growth as a student. Despite the constant travelling,

Aashutosh is extremely interested in the field of engineering, particularly automobile engineering He

is captivated by the complex systems and technologies used in motorsport and Formula 1, as well as
the attention to minute details. For this reason, Aashutosh wishes to pursue mechanical engineering
for his undergraduate programme and later specialize in automobile engineering. He hopes to be
able to bring these technologies to road vehicles and improve their efficiencies at lower costs.

In relation to his activity in the physics course, I mentored Aashutosh as he conducted his Internal
Investigation and Extended Essay in physics. I was very impressed with his efficiency and researching
ability as he finished them within his tight schedule. He chose the topic of “coefficient of restitution
on the tennis racket for his physics Internal Assessment”, making impressive connections to his
sporting interest and the physics behind it. He performed his extended essay on the topic of
rotational mechanics and slipping during rotation, relating to the wheel slip on Formula 1 cars during
races. Again, he showed great enthusiasm and dedication to his research, while successfully making
real life applications to motorsport. His desire to explore engineering was resonant in his choice to
study the engineering physics option of the physics course. Both his Internal Investigation and
Extended Essay showed prominent signs of engagement as well, a quality that is crucial.

Being Aashutosh’s physics teacher during the IB Diploma Programme has been greatly enjoyable.
Balanced, passionate, dedicated and intellectual, I feel compelled to say that he would be a great
asset in the university that he joins and without hesitance, I recommend him to your esteemed
university.
