Course: Intensive English 4
Topic: spending days of isolation with your relations
Communicative function: Talking about relationships, sport and fitness, regrets and unfulfilled conditions

a. words related to relationships and sports
b. past form of modals: should/could have
c. past form of conditionals
d. idiomatic expressions: “down in the dumps” and “get the hang of” from Talking idioms on English

Length of video: Your video should last from 1’30” to 2´30” (1 minute and a half to 2 minutes).
Technical requirements:
 any video recording tool
 any video editing tool, if necessary
Note: If you use www.Youtube.com to make the video, change video privacy setting to “public” so your
teacher can view it.
Assessment criteria:
 pronunciation and intonation
 discourse management
 accuracy
 interactive communication
 task achievement (organization, clarity and use of webcam)

Timeline and deadline:
This task should be prepared along week 2.
You must upload your video or paste the link to your video on Blackboard (Unit 3 file) by Sunday, April 5th
2020 at 23:59 p.m.

ORAL PRODUCTION TASK INSTRUCTIONS

Record yourself on a video telling us about how you are spending these days of isolation
because of the Covid-19 outbreak with your relations (family, friends, etc.).

Tell us briefly about:

 the activities you (and your family) are doing in these days of isolation
 how problems are solved/decisions are taken
 if you do exercise or activities to keep fit
 If you are following any of the recommendations from the articles (See below.)
 what you would have done differently if you had known this was going to be this serious
 what you think people should/could have done before to prevent this from happening

PROCEDURE

Before recording
 Review units 2 and 3 on English Discoveries.
 Read and do exercises in Use of English files on Blackboard.
 Do exercises from Units 2 and 3 Practice resource files on Blackboard.
 Read these articles:

 Read oral production task instructions carefully.
 Plan the script of your speech.
 When drafting the script, use the vocabulary and grammar structures you have learned in Units 2
and 3. See Target language above.
 Practice several times before recording the final version of your video.
 Check the rubrics with specific criteria for grading oral production activities.

While recording

 Be in a well-lit area.
 Speak as clearly as possible.
 Look at the camera while you speak.
 Smile.
 Be confident.
 Don’t just read.
 After
Show objects, pictures or other people doing things, if necessary.

 Test your video works well before sending the link or uploading the video file.
 Make sure your video respects the time limit.
 Paste the link of your video or upload the video file and the script (the script is referential) in the
Assignment section (actividad in Unit 3) on Blackboard.
