SECTION C
Read the text below and answer questions 17-24.

Cartoonist Datuk Mohd Nor Khalid, better known as Lat, grew up in a small village in
Perak. Lat attended Pasir Puteh English Primary School. As he watched his friends and family
work and play, he developed an interest in depicting them on paper. Thus, his comic
sketches materialised and he sold his comics to pupils for 20 sen per copy. His early
inspirations came from Western cartoons like 'The Flintstones' and 'The Jetsons'.

His first break came in 1964 with the publication of 'Tiga Sekawan'. Then, in 1968
'Keluarga Si Mamat' was born for Berita Minggu. His reputation as a cartoonist grew from
then, but it was the 1978 publication of his comic book 'Kampung Boy' that firmly
established him as our most influential and celebrated cartoonist. The inspiration for
'Kampung Boy' came at 26 years old, when he was travelling in the United States and
realised that he missed his 'kampung' (village).

'Kampung Boy' was later made into an animated television series and has received
recognition both locally and internationally.

Lat also tackles the 21st century, depicting current issues in a candid yet amusing
manner.
