Topic: Abbreviated Electron Configuration and

Orbital Diagrams.
Chemists write electron configurations to describe and communicate the arrangement of
electrons around the nucleus of atoms. This notation aids in predicting how atoms will
join together to from chemical bonds and their behavior.

Activities
1. Download the PowerPoint and watch the video with the explanations.
2. Do the exercises at the end of this guide.
3. Visit the link “Orbital Box Diagram” to check your work.
4. Remember to write the most important information and the exercises on your
notebook.
5. Send a picture of your notebook’s pages with the exercises resolved.
Exercises for this week.
1. Locate these elements in the periodic table. Color them.
How many protons and electrons do each element have?
Write their names and the abbreviated electron configuration.

2. Observe this periodic table and do the following:
a. Draw on top of each group (columns) how the electron configuration is supposed to end.
b. Write the abbreviated electron configuration of each element that is colored in pink.
c. Color each block of the periodic table in a different color.
