Consistency is affected by many issues :
a. Style : penggunaan tanda baca & huruf besar kecil.
b. Fonts, font sizes, colors
c. Syntax : tidak menggunakan verb-based labels (misal :
“Grooming Your Cat”), noun-based labels (misal :“Diets for
Cats”), & question-based labels (misal :“How Do You Paper
Train Your Cat?”) di 1 sistem yang sama.
Pilih salah satu & gunakan secara konsisten.
f. Audience
• Consider the languages of environment’s major audiences.
• If each audience uses very different terminology :
Develop separate labeling system for each audience, although
those systems are describing exactly the same content.
Sources of Labeling Systems :
• Caranya :
a. Capture the existing labels in a single document : walk
through the entire system, either manually or
automatically, gather the labels.
b. Assemble them in a simple table containing a list or
outline of each label and the documents it represents.

• Labels can come directly from our content.
• Read a representative sample of our environment’s
content and write a few descriptive keywords for each
document.
• Look for ways to speed up the process by focusing on any
existing content representations like titles, summaries, and
abstracts.
2. Get user advocates (penasihat) & subject matter
experts
Who can speak on the users’ behalf or familiar with the users’
information needs in a larger context.
• Contoh : Pada health care system yang dikembangkan oleh
rumah sakit, klinik, atau pemerintah (misal Kementerian
Kesehatan) : User advocates-nya bisa dokter/perawat.
Bisa sangat mengetahui :
– Hal-hal yang ingin diketahui pasien yang awam
sampai yang advance.
– Hal-hal yang diinginkan user dari health care system.
