Midterm Exam of pre-Medical physics (spring 2018)

Answer the following ( 5 problems X 2 mark = 10 marks)

1. From the graph calculate the average acceleration in the interval t=0 to t=20s.

2. A ball is released from rest at the top of building. Determine the position of the ball
after 3 s (g=9.81m/s2)

3. In the figure angle = 30, m=10kg. And the inclined plane is smooth. Find the tension in
the rope (g=9.81m/s2)

4. A stationary block is pushed by a force (F) against a rough wall as shown in the figure.
Determine the force of static friction exerted on the block if the mass is 0.5kg
(g=9.81m/s2).

5. An ice flake is released from rest at the brim of hemispherical glass container of radius
r=15cm, what is the speed of the flake at the lowest point of its trajectory(g=9.81m/s2)

Put () or (X) in front in each statement: (0.5 mark each)

acceleration due to gravity is only 1.62 m/s2 , the mass (m) of the object:
A. Is reduced by factor of B. decrease C. increase D. does not change
5- A spring scale is attached to the ceiling of an elevator and an object is suspended from
the scale lower end. As elevator is accelerated upwards the scale reading:
A. Decrease B. increase C. does not change D. become Zero
6- A ball is moving vertically downwards in free-fall process. As time passes:
