 Inf. = informal – English does not have informal and formal, but in French, the
informal tense tu is used with family, friends, and acquaintances your own age.
 F. = formal – the formal tense is used when talking with bosses, your teachers,
older people, etc. It is a sign of respect and distance
 Pl. = Plural - talking to or about multiple people
 M. = Masculine
 F. = Feminine

elles is only used when speaking strictly about women. If even one man is in a
group, ils is used
