This image is one that is a direct display of chaos. There is a stagger of grey
clouds and white clouds going up and down in a wave like motion. To combat
this hectic attribute of the image there is clear definition between the colours
of the clouds which keeps and atmosphere of organisation which is somewhat
aesthetically pleasing and satisfying for audiences. A key focus within this
photograph is the fact that the positioning of the clouds almost imitates the
formation of the mountains within the background. This is significant as it can
subconsciously keep the image in order and concordance between focuses.
There Is a sense of pathetic fallacy within this image which stems to me from
the peak of white clouds and sky within the top left region of the photograph.
This peak can reflect overcoming tough situations and/or becoming euphoric
after a period of being low. Not only is this established just through the
imagery of clouds, but additionally the mountains. ‘Mountains call us to climb
new heights and become better versions of ourselves.’ There are various
quotes out there that express the climb of a mountain and reaching the top is
all an experience to better one’s self which is definitely present within this
photograph. This image has been taken in landscape form so that the sight can
be seen from the point of view of an individual standing right in front of the
mountains. This is important as it draws an audience in to look at the
photograph in an alternative/engaging way. A compositional technique that
has been subtly used is pattern as I previously mentioned there is a wave like
shape to the clouds dipping and rising. There isn’t a particular depth of field
within his image as the majority of the photograph is in focus despite it being
taken from a far. I believe this was done so that it gives an opportunity for all
to see the natural way in which the mountains are formed, and the clouds
mimic it. The photo has been taken from a point of being in line with the focus
so not to make the audience seem lesser or greater than what is being
portrayed. This can be viewed as somewhat uplifting as it creates equity across
all being capable of overcoming rough times. Despite the positive imagery,
there are minor displays of negativity pouring in, again this is a form of
pathetic fallacy. The clouds that are grey are seeping down into the image,
reaching down to the floor. This can visualise the effects of stress and difficult
emotions overwhelming an individual. I want to bring this idea into my work of
cloudscapes as well as my referencing to Romeo and Juliet and the ups and
downs that there are within the play. Romeo and Juliet can be applied to this
image in a number of ways. For example, R&J is an event and emotional
rollercoaster, what with finding love, then not being able to be together etc.
this storyline can be easily visualised through the clouds and the mountain
formation. As well as this, the dark clouds looming over the beautiful view is
reflective of the dark fate that is shadowing their love story.
