product serial number. Registering a single library will link it to the main product so they can authorize together.

The software serial numbers are located on the registration card (in USB/Boxed product) or via email (digital
delivery). You can insert multiple serial numbers in one session. If you already registered these serial numbers,
they will always be located in the My Products section of the User Area.

Chapter 5 – Software and Sound Content Installation

IK Multimedia products may consist of up to 3 installer types:
• Software installer
• Instruments installer*
• Sample Content installers*

We recommend using the default installation directories. However, you can use a custom install path for your
Sound Content Library (see Chapter 7 – Custom Installation).

For Digital Delivery licenses, these installers can be found in the My Products section of the IK User Area. Sound
Content can be accessed from the “Sounds Downloads” button. User Manuals and product-specific downloads
are located in “Download Resources”.

figure 5.1 – Software and Sounds downloads in User Area > My Products

For macOS, a DMG file will be downloaded. Once finished, double-click on the DMG to mount it. Here you will
find the Installer .pkg file. Double-click on the Install.pkg and follow the steps on screen to install.

For Windows, a ZIP file will be downloaded. Once finished, right-click on the ZIP file and extract it. Here you will
find the Installer .exe file. Double-click on the Install .exe and follow the steps on screen to install.

* Some products only require the software installer (e.g. AmpliTube and T-RackS). Other applications may require
you install additional sound content (e.g. SampleTank and Syntronik).

23 5 - Software and Sound Content Installation

Installation/Authorization Manual

5.1– Software Installer

This installs the standalone program to the default program directory, along with the plugin instances (VST,
VST3, AAX, and AU). Download the installer from the My Products section of the IK User Area (see figure 5.1 -
Software and Sounds downloads in User Area > My Products). To the right of each product are two download
buttons for macOS or Windows.

Default install Paths:

macOS®
Standalone app: Macintosh HD / Applications
VST: Macintosh HD / Library / Audio / Plug-Ins / VST
VST3: Macintosh HD / Library / Audio / Plug-Ins / VST3
AAX: Macintosh HD / Library / Application Support / Avid / Audio / Plug-Ins
AU: Macintosh HD / Library / Audio / Plug-Ins / Components
Presets: Macintosh HD / Users / *USERNAME* / Documents / IK Multimedia /

Windows®
Standalone app: C:\Program Files\IK Multimedia\
VST: C:\Program Files\VstPlugIns
VST3: C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3
AAX: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Avid\Audio\Plug-Ins
Presets: C:\Users\*USERNAME*\Documents\IK Multimedia\

5.2– Instruments Installer

This installs the Instrument files (.st4i) into the default sound content library. This is accessed by clicking on the
Sounds Download button in the User Area (see figure 5.1 - Software and Sounds downloads in User Area > My
Products). These files require the corresponding sample content to be installed.

Default Sound Content install path:

macOS®
Macintosh HD / Users / Shared / Documents / IK Multimedia / SampleTank 4

Windows®
C:\Users\Public\Documents\IK Multimedia\SampleTank 4

NOTE: SampleTank 3 & SampleTank 4 sounds exist on separate directories. Do not combine directories.

24 5 - Software and Sound Content Installation

Installation/Authorization Manual

5.3– Sample Content Installers

These installers contain the audio sample files (.pak) required to load your instruments. Due to the size and
multitude of the audio files, these consist of the most installers. These installers are sorted by instrument
category. Some categories are contained in 1 install (e.g. Chromatic, Electric Piano, and Ethnic Samples), while
other categories consist of multiple parts (e.g. Bass Samples Parts 1 – 2, Acoustic Drums Parts 1 – 4, and
Acoustic Piano Parts 1 – 10).

Like all installers, they will download as DMG (macOS) or ZIP (Windows) files. These must be mounted or
extracted first.

Once your sound library is installed, it is important to let the application rebuild the library database. This will
perform a scanning process on the assigned sound content directory, linking the instruments (.st4i) and sample
content (.pak).

5.4– Sound Library Updates

Over time, Sound Library Updates are made available. Sound Library Update Installers are only required if
the update was released after your current sound library install. When a sound library update is released, the
instrument and sample installers are also updated. So, by default, you do not need to run the Sound Library
Update if you’re downloading/installing sounds for the first time.

5.5– USB/Boxed Installation

If you’ve received your product via USB/Boxed copy, installation is easy! Plug in the USB drive into an empty
USB port. This USB consists of a macOS Software Installer, Windows Software Installer, and/or the Sound
Content Installers.

Based on your Operating System, enter the “Install macOS” or “Install Windows” folder and run the installer
located there.

If the product has separate sound content to install, enter the “Sound Content” folder. Here you will find the
sound content installer and the sound content folder. Do note move these files as the installer reads/writes data
from the sound content folder. You may run the installer directly from the USB drive. For SampleTank 4 MAX
USBs, you will find an additional “SampleTank 3” folder. Inside these folders are the Sound Content Installers.

On the USB version only, all instruments and sample content are contained in this installer. Since it is installing
the complete library at once, please allow some time for the installation process. After installing sound content
via USB, we recommend checking for sound content updates in the My Products section of the User Area.

NOTE: Here you may also set a custom install path. See Chapter 7 – Custom Installation for help.

Chapter 6 – Custom Shop

The Custom Shop is a standalone desktop app where you can try and buy gear, modules, and libraries for
participating apps such as:

• AmpliTube 4
• T-RackS 5
• SampleTank 3 / Syntronik

You may log into the Custom Shop using your IK username. Any item purchased in the Custom Shop will be
linked to your IK account. In addition to buying gear, you can also try gear before purchasing it. This will open a
trial mode for that item. The Custom Shop client must be open when trying any item.

Custom Shop will show all owned gear as well as items that are not owned. This can be viewed by clicking on
the “Gear” drop down menu.

Custom Shop can also restore and authorize items linked to your IK account. Once logged in, hover your
mouse cursor over “Gear”, a dropdown menu will appear, then click “Restore my Gear”. For SampleTank 3 and
Syntronik, it will appear as “Sounds” and “Restore my Sounds”.

Custom Shop may be accessed in the standalone app or plugin via shopping cart icon, or directly opening the
app:

macOS: “Applications” folder

Windows: Start menu, All Programs

Chapter 7 – Custom Installation

You can set a custom install directory for your Sound Content Library. This can exist on a separate internal drive,
or an external drive. The standalone app and plugins can exist in your main drive, and Sound Content Library
can exist on a separate drive.

First, using a Finder or Explorer window, create the directory on your other drive, for example:

Windows: F:\SampleTank 4 Sounds

macOS: Volumes/SampleTank 4 Sounds

Run the Instruments Installer and click “continue”, then “agree”. The page here named “Installation Location”
shows you the current Sound Content install path. Click on “Browse” to select a new destination. A Finder/
Explorer window will appear. Select the folder you created, like in the example above.

Chapter 8 – Troubleshooting

Where can I find my product Serial Number?

The Serial Number is written on the Registration Card (included with your IK product, inside the box) or in the
Order Confirmation email you received from IK Multimedia (if you purchased the product as ‘Digital Delivery’).

SampleTank 4

1. Insert the USB flash drive and launch

the product installer.

2. Use the following Serial Number in

the Authorization Manager to authorize
your product.

SERIAL NUMBER
STX40-12ABCDEF-12345

figure 8.1 - Registration Card

IMPORTANT: the number zero can easily be identified in your Serial Number because it is crossed by a line.

Why is the Authorization Manager rejecting my Serial Number?

Probably because of a typo, here are some common errors:
• Typing a 0 (“zero” number) instead of an O (“o” letter)
• Typing 1 (“one” number) instead of an I (“i” letter)
• Typing 2 (“two” number) instead of a Z (“z” letter)
• Typing 5 (“five” number) instead of an S (“s” letter)
• Typing 8 (“eight” number) instead of a B (“b” letter)
• Typing a “.” (point) instead of a “-” (minus)
• Typing a Ø (“Ø” symbol) instead of a 0 (“0” number)

29 8 – Troubleshooting
Installation/Authorization Manual

Suggestions
• If possible, please copy and paste the serial number
• Delete any spaces
• Please type all codes in UPPERCASE during the installation and registration process
• Check that the Serial Number that you are entering is in correlation with the product installed

White Noise / Hiss every 10 seconds

This white noise burst / hiss occurs because something is not authorized in the session. It may be the following:
• The app/plugin trial is expired. You must insert your product serial number to authorize.
• An item in your session is in trial mode but Custom Shop is not open. When in the Custom Shop Trial for
any gear or module, the Custom Shop client must be open. Open Custom Shop to resolve this.

Can I install the Amps or Modules to an External Drive?

These assets are contained within the app/plugin itself. All amps/cabs and gear in AmpliTube are installed to
the app itself. In T-RackS it is the same, all modules such as EQs and Compressors are installed within the
application and do not take up considerable amount of space needed for external installs. This is beneficial for
allowing immediate trial of any gear model or module in the Custom Shop.

Sound Installer Aborted Error

This can happen if the file path is too long. Try the following:
• Move the complete installer folder to your root drive or desktop. Open and run the installer from this location.
• Set the install destination to a shorter directory with less subfolders. For example, use “F:\SampleTank 4
Sounds” instead of “F:\Samples\IK Multimedia\SampleTank 4 Sample Library”
• Reduce the amount of characters in your install directory
• The file may not have downloaded completely. Try downloading the file again.

Unable to extract file – ZIP/DMG is corrupt

This can occur due to download/bandwidth issues or errors writing the complete file to your computer. Try the
following:
• Download the DMG/ZIP file again
• Download each file individually. Downloading several files at once may cause issues upon writing the
complete file to your computer

30 8 – Troubleshooting
Installation/Authorization Manual

Unable to load sound –. Pak File is Missing

The .Pak files are the audio/sample content for the corresponding instruments. If you receive an error that the
.pak file is missing, this means the sample content for that instrument is missing or not linked properly. Check
the following:
• Make sure you installed all the sample content parts for that instrument
• Check your Sound Content directory in the SampleTank 4 Settings page

Library Icon is not Accessible

If the Library shows a LOCK icon, this means that library is not authorized. Open the authorization Manager and
insert the serial number for that library/product.

If the Library shows a DOWNLOAD icon, this means the library is authorized but not installed. Clicking on the
download icon will redirect you to the My Products section of the IK User Area to download that content. If you
did install that content, make sure you have it set correctly in the SampleTank 4 Sound Content Settings page.

How can I authorize my product on another computer?

To authorize your product on another computer just follow these instructions:
• Install the product and the Authorization Manager on that computer
• Log into your IK account (username)
• Run the Authorization Manager and follow the instructions

I need to log in into the User Area, but I forgot my User Name and Password. What
should I do?
You can retrieve your User Area login details in two different ways:
• Run the Authorization Manager and follow the steps until you reach the login page. Click on the ‘Forgot
password?’ button. Here it will redirect you to the Username / Password reset page on the IK Multimedia
website. You must be connected to the internet to change your password.
• Visit: https://www.ikmultimedia.com/passwordreset/

I just bought an IK Multimedia software. What should I do to register and authorize my

new product?
Just run the Authorization Manager and follow the instructions.

In case you don’t have the Authorization Manager, you can download it for free from our website at: http://www.
