Amazon Auschwitz Christmas Ornament Case

Amazon pulls Auschwitz-themed Christmas ornaments from sale

[ Auschwitz, Poland’s ] - [22 April 2020] - At the heart of our mission is the idea to ensure a
welcoming environment for our global customers and selling partners to do business while
offering the plethora of selection of items available. With the recent case of the sale of
Auschwitz Christmas Ornament case, we would like to clarify a few matters and address the
issue that has arisen.

On 1 December 2019, we received a tweet from Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum in

Poland regarding the Auschwitz-themed Christmas ornaments that were on sale on Amazon’s
website. It is to our understanding that this incident has been disturbing and disrespectful. We
have since removed products sold by third-party sellers which includes bottle openers and
Christmas baubles featuring photographs of the Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz. “In
Amazon, We truly value the trust and respect of our partners and valued customers. In this
case, we always give 100% when it comes to customer service.” Stated by Jenniffer Lopeyz, A
representative of RYS Media Organisation. He further mentioned that “Our company is not
perfect and will never be, this is why flaws and imperfections are always present, but we take
quick action in turning our imperfections into the comfort of our customers.”

Ever since the 1990s, Amazon has gradually progressed into the world’s biggest digital retailer.
As we continue to strive for our commitment to operational excellence, we would like to assure
Amazon users that we will continue to do our best to provide optimum service and satisfy the
needs of our customers. With an increasingly automated e-commerce landscape, the company
has been doing automatic screening before items go up on sale. It is on our part that we have
neglected certain products that violate our policy and fall through the cracks and the products in
question have been removed. With this regard, we would like to emphasise that Amazon has no
tolerance towards products that propounds hateful or disrespectful ideologies. Amazon has
been striving to provide respectable service towards our sellers and consumers and build a
positive impact on the community. According to the retailer’s offensive and controversial
materials policy, products related to human tragedies will not be allowed to be sold on-site. All
sellers are to follow our selling guidelines and those who do not will be subjected to necessary
actions which include potential removal of their account.

Furthermore, as soon as we received the dispute we managed to prioritize the problem and
removed what needed to be removed. Explained by Angelina Chiu, the Secretary of Amazon.
Although we did commit a very serious mistake, we took it as a lesson that could push us
forward in becoming the best and top company for our valued partners and customers which is
what we are always trying to maintain.

In conclusion, Amazon will do their best to recover from this mistake and fix the problem by
doing more detail automatic screening before items goes online. Amazon also restate that they
have no tolerance to products that have negative effect or offensive effect to customer policy
and will punish seller who does not obey the selling guidelines that amazon already provide.
