Field Trip Report #1 – SIDC
Soro-Soro Ibaba Development Cooperative, commonly known to Batangueños as SIDC, is the
biggest and most successful agricultural cooperative in the Philippines. The SIDC story started on March
19, 1969 when Mr. Victoriano E. Barte founded the Soro-soro Ibaba Farmers’ Association with only 59
members and a capital of ₱11,800 from the ₱200 contribution from each member. Soro-soro Ibaba
Farmers’ Association was registered at the Securities and Exchange Commission and was given a license.
The cooperative started with a small general store which offered basic commodities that the members
needed. Overtime, the small general store grew along with the number of members the cooperative has.
They had expanded to poultry and hog raising, feed milling, and other products. Contract-growing
operations started in 1972 at the same time that the cooperative changed its’ name from Soro-soro Ibaba
Farmers’ Association to Samahang Nayon ng Soro-soro Ibaba. Afterwards, the cooperative continued to
grow in number and in size as well as changing its name three more times between 1978 to 1997 – from
Samahang Nayon ng Soro-soro Ibaba to Soro-soro Ibaba Development Cooperative Inc. (SIDCI) and
finally, Soro-soro Ibaba Development Cooperative (SIDC).

Currently, SIDC is celebrating its 50 years in the industry and one of their goals for their golden
anniversary is to have 50,000 members by the end of the year. Currently, the cooperative has roughly
around 36, 149 members and 1,162 employees. SIDC has also expanded it product and service offerings
