Professional Career Goals Statement

After graduation, I will begin my work as a counselor (LCMHCA) in a private practice

called The Haymount Institute in Fayetteville, North Carolina. At this practice, I will work with

children and teenagers with a variety of mental, emotional, social, and family needs. My goal is

to gain wisdom and experiences as I expand my knowledgebase of counseling interventions and

therapy techniques specifically for adolescents. I want to focus on family systems and

incorporate parents/guardians into the treatment of my child clients. I will work at The

Haymount Institute under supervision for the next two years until I acquire my full Clinical

Mental Health Counselor licensure (LCMHC) in the state of North Carolina. During this time, I

hope to continue my counseling education through training opportunities, working towards

certifications in child-centered play therapy and creative art therapies. My fiancé is a Captain in

the Army, as such, we will move to a new location in three years. I would like to pursue a

certification in military life counseling so that I can better serve the military community that I

will be living in while is he in service. I plan to keep my focus on counseling children and

teenagers when working with military families. Ultimately, I would like to shift my counseling

focus to trauma-informed care, so that I can better understand and treat childhood trauma. Within

the next three to five years, I would like to begin doctoral studies and research in trauma-

informed counseling techniques for adolescents.
