You are on page 1of 3

Station 1: Identifying the transformation performed

In this station, you will use your input/output table to identify the transformation you performed. On
your station log, you will write the transformations in the order they performed on you input/output
table.

Bed:

Transformation meanings:

Mathematical computation: Transformation performed:

Adding to the x coordinate Translation
Subtracting from the x coordinate Translation
Adding to the y coordinate Translation
Subtracting from the y coordinate Translation
(-y,x) Rotation
(-x,y) Rotation
(-x,y) Reflection
(x,-y) Reflection

Station 2: Determining what our transformation means

Use the vocabulary terms you described in the previous station to determine the meaning of each.
Write the meaning of each in the box next to it under column 2 “Station 2: What the transformation
means”.

Translation: slide shape ___ units to the left/right/up/down

Reflection: flip the shape over the x-axis, y-axis

Rotation: turn the shape 90/180 degrees

Station 3: Determining the measurement and direction of our
transformation
Step 1: use your input/output table to determine the direction in which the shape was transformed.
Log this next to the meaning of the transformation, in the column labeled “Station 3: Measurement
and direction of the transformation”.

Mathematical computation: Transformation performed:

Adding to the x coordinate Translating right
Subtracting from the x coordinate Translating left
Adding to the y coordinate Translating up
Subtracting from the y coordinate Translating down
(-y,x) Rotation
(-x,y) Rotation
(-x,y) Reflection
(x,-y) Reflection.

Step 2: Use your input/output table to determine the measurement of the transformation. Log this
next to the meaning of the transformation, in the column labeled “Station 3: Measurement and
direction of the transformation”.

Mathematical computation: Measurement of transformation:

Adding/subtracting to the x-coordinate/y- The number added or subtracted is the number
coordinate of units the shape is translated
(-y,x) Rotating 90 degrees
(-x,y) Rotating 180 degrees
(-x,y) Reflection over the y-axis
(x,-y) Reflection over the x-axis

Station 4: Sentence creation

In this station, you will use the information that you discovered in stations 1-3. You will create a
sentence by following the formula provided.

Formula for sentence creation: I insert transformation performed (station 1) the shape
insert measurement/direction (station 3) units/degrees.

Example: I translated the shape 4 units to the right.

I rotated the shape 90 degrees.
