4 Solving Two-Step Inequalities Day 2

Solve the inequality and graph the solution

1) A movie theater charges $10 per a ticket. The theater has already made $400. Write and

solve an inequality that represent how many more tickets the theater needs to sell to earn at

least $1000.

2) You have a gift card worth $90. You want to buy several movies that cost $12 each. Write

and solve an inequality that represents the number of movies you can buy and still have at least

$30 on the gift card.

3) Ryan has scored 10 goals this season for his travel soccer team. His goal is to score at least

20 goals in total this season. If his team has 5 games left, at least how many goals must Ryan

score per a game to achieve his total number of goals?

4) Penelope bought a 30lb bag of dog food for her dog Marley. So far Marley has eaten 12lbs of

the bag of dog food. At least how many pounds of dog food must Marley eat a day over the next

6 days to finish the bag of dog food.

Find the error in this students work. After you have found the error, correct the inequality

solution.

1) Joe wants read at least 400 pages of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows before the

end of winter break. He has already read 150 pages. If he has 5 days left of winter

break, at least how many pages does he need to read a day to achieve his goal?

150 + 5x ≤ 400

5x ≤ 400-150

5x ≤ 250

5x/5 ≤ 250/50

x ≤ 50

2) Jill and her friends want to go to Disney World over spring break. Each person does not

want to spend more than $1400 total. Her and her friends already purchased round trip

flights for $400. If park tickets cost $200 a day, how many days can she spend in Disney

World?

200 + 400x ≤ 1400

400x ≤ 1400 -200

400x ≤ 1200

400x/400 ≤ 1200/400

x ≤ 300
