 Good design
Good design is one that is tailored for the human use, and not one that is only functional or
usable. A good designer knows how to get into the mindset of his users, and turns their needs
into a meaningful, desirable, and easy-to-use product or service.
A good design cannot be measured by a finite way, multiple perspective are needed for good
design. A good design have following qualities:-
Good design is innovative
Good design is functional
Good design makes a product useful
Good design is aesthetic
Good design is honest
Good design is user oriented
Good design is always the simplest possible working solution
Good design is as little design as possible
Good design engage through intrinsic motivation

 Example
Example of a good design app is the Google Maps home screen for
mobile. Google Maps allows users to quickly type in their location and
destination, and quickly guide the user to their destination using different
transit methods:

What makes this good design?

 There is visual direction. I know, by looking at this screen

that the search bar will take me to my location. It is easily found at
the top of the screen. This app is very helpful.
 There is balance, alignment, and contrast. Some elements
dominate others on the screen such as the visual street map and
the “Explore San Francisco” item list. This is satisfying.
 Size. The list of suggestions at the bottom of the screen are
proportional and spaced evenly, they also add a visual appeal.
 Color. The color scheme is not loud or obtrusive to the user
interface. This is pleasurable.
 Bad Design
A Bad design is like a noise.it can be frustrating, dull, or annoying, it may be as bad as actually
ugly, or simply unremarkable and therefore not worthy of someone’s attention. To your
audience, bad design is an obstacle instead of an enabler. Basically bad design cannot satisfy
your audience.
Some main Characteristic of bad design:

 Hard-to-find navigation options

 Complicated operations and bad usability
 Terribly Arranged Components & Ugly typography
 Illogical interactive ideas
 Illogical Color scheme.

 Example
An example of bad design app is GPSGuide. You can look at picture and
found that the design is very boring. And also there is a lot of
information in small space.

What makes this bad design?

 The color scheme does not work at all. This is frustrating.

 There is too much information that makes very difficult to read.
User feel boring.
 Design doesn’t look good. This makes one feel guilty.
