Labor Automation Disadvantages

Increase in unemployment

High capital expenditure required to invest in automation

More pollution

Over the past two decades, automation in manufacturing has been transforming factory floors, the
nature of manufacturing employment, and the economics of many manufacturing sectors. Today,
we are on the cusp of a new automation era: rapid advances in robotics, artificial intelligence, and
machine learning are enabling machines to match or outperform humans in a range of work
activities. With this advancement of technology to manufacturing industries, it may cause many
major problem that can highly affect the society and environment. One of those is the increase in
unemployment rate. According to Carl Frey and Micheal Osborne, researchers from oxford, 47% of
jobs in the American market could disappear due to the automation in the next twenty years.
Another effect of automation in manufacturing is its contribution to pollution. Different
manufacturing company uses machine to process different products. This machine uses fuels. This
fuels when processed emits toxic gases that contributes to pollution. Every manufacturing company
must first consider of its effects to the society and environment which will highly affected by the said
action.
