SIZE DETERMINATION

For this research, the researchers used sample. Sample is a subgroup of the elements of
the population selected for participation in the study.

To decide how many sample will be use the researchers used the Slovin’s Formula to get the
sample size needed, n= N/ (1+N*e2), wherein, n is the sample size, N is the population size and e
is the margin of error.

In getting the total population of first year students taking up Accountancy the
researchers asked the beadle of each section, from AC11 to AC17 of Bachelor of Science in
Accountancy first year, the total number of students in each block. Adding all the gathered
information, the total population of freshmen who are taking up Accountancy in Ateneo de Naga
University is 200. 5% is the constant number for the margin of error.

Using the population and the margin of error, researchers solved for the sample size
needed

n = N / (1+N*e2)

= 200 / (1+200*0.052)

= 165 students

With the Slovin’s Formula, the sample size that needed to be surveyed is 165 students.
