Workshop Theme 2: Sampling

Note: This workshop is proposed as a complement to the activities carried out in class and directed by each
of the teachers. It serves as a guide for all topics related to sampling techniques.

1. Proposed Exercises
Ejemplo 1
For the following years, you must use the data in the file Nombres.xls.

1. Obtain a random sample size n = 15 students using simple random sampling without
replacement. List the corresponding random numbers and the method by which they
were obtained.

* Calculate the average grade of the students in the sample.

* Calculate the standard deviation of the students’ grades in the sample.
* Calculate the proportion of students with an average of more than 4.00 in the sample.
* Calculate the proportion of students who smoke in the sample.

2. Obtain a random sample size n = 18 students using systematic sampling

* Calculate the average grade of the students in the sample.

* Calculate the standard deviation of the students’ grades in the sample.
* Calculate the proportion of students with an average of more than 4.00 in the sample.
* Calculate the proportion of students who smoke in the sample.

3. Obtain a random sample size n = 12 students using stratified proportional sampling

* Construct the strata using the variable Program.

4. Obtain a random sample size n = 12 students using uniform stratified sampling

* Construct the strata using the variable Program.

* Calculate the average grade of the students in the sample.
* Calculate the standard deviation of the students’ grades in the sample.
* Calculate the proportion of students with an average of more than 4.00 in the sample.
* Calculate the proportion of students who smoke in the sample.

2. Answers
Since the samples are obtained randomly, the responses vary for each student.
