Chapter 3

METHODS OF RESEARCH AND SOURCES OF THE

DATA

In this part of the study, steps and procedures will be discussed. In

addition, the research design of this study contains a substantial preview of

the methodology as well as a description of respondents and how they are

chosen for participating in this research, as well as data on instrumentation,

gathering of data, sampling techniques, and statistical data.

Research Design

The descriptive design was used in this study as part of a quantitative

approach. This design is used in different fields of conducting a study

because the data description is factual, accurate, and systematic; the

research cannot describe what caused a situation. According to Burns (2008),

In descriptive research, the research hypotheses often will exist, but

they may be tentative and speculative in order to seek information from one or

more variables, expound more details pertaining to this study, and depict an

accurate description. Simply put, descriptive research is all about the people

who participate in the study describing the topic. This method has been

chosen by the majority to widen the study according to its topic, expand the

solution for this research, and minimize the negative results in the future. The

researchers used this method to determine the effects of technology on

student learners' academic performance and whether these various

technological devices are beneficial to students in becoming more productive

or a threat.
Sample and Sampling Technique

Non-probability sampling and convenience sampling were used in this

study. In this sampling, we refer to sampling by obtaining units or people who

are most conveniently available. Convenience sampling is simply one where

the units that are selected for inclusion in the sample are the easiest to

access. The researchers considered the Grade 12 SHS ABM learners at

Alaminos City National High School to identify the use of technology in their

method of learning.

As a result, the respondents of this study were the Grade 12 SHS

ABM learners enrolled in Alaminos City National High School during the

School Year 2022-2023, to identify the use of technology in their method of

learning.

The senior high school ABM learners chosen as respondents in the

study were evaluated to identify the use of technology in their method of

learning as Accountancy Business, and Management students or not.

Data-Gathering Instrument

The instrument that the researchers decided to use to collect data was

the questionnaire, which was prepared beforehand to gather the needed data

to support this study and was answered by the chosen, respected

respondents who were mainly concerned with the effects of using

technological devices on student learners’ academic performances.

Questionnaires were originally made up of ten (10) rating scale questions.

Respondents’ names are optional to maintain confidentiality. The questions

will clarify the intention of this study and whether technology is efficient or a

threat to the academic performance of the students. The questionnaire was

18
constructed by the researchers, with guidance and analysis provided by the

teacher.

Data Gathering Procedure

Data collection is a priority in this survey to obtain information about the

various perceptions of each individual participating in this study. It is easy to

complete the study if you have enough data and the right knowledge to

produce one. The survey will be conducted in the classroom at Alaminos City

National High School. The researcher will also consider the availability of the

respondents as well as the whole class to avoid conflicts during teachers’

lectures. To collect the data needed for the research paper and the

researchers, first of all, the researcher asked for permission to conduct the

study from the subject teacher in Practical Research 2 and the respondents,

Grade 12 ABM students at Alaminos City National High School. The

researcher prepared the materials to be used in gathering data from the

respondents. The researchers personally distributed the list of questions to

the respondents. The researchers explained and answered the questions of

the respondents regarding the given paper. The collected data were analyzed

and interpreted by the researchers. The results of the survey were also kept

confidential.

Treatment of Data

The data gathered b the researchers were carefully tallied, analyzed

and interpret using statistical tool to find out the effect of technology in

improving the academic performance of the respondents. The researchers

used Frequency, Percentage Distribution and Average Weighted Mean ( for

19
the testing of hypothesis).

To answer problem #1, the researchers used the Frequency and

Percentage Distribution to determine the demographic profile of the

respondents. The formula is shown below:

P = f/n x 100

Where:

P = percentage

F = total response of respondents

N = total respondents

To answer problem #2, the researchers used the Average Weighted

Mean. The formula i shown below:

AWP = (F x 4)+(F x 3)+(F x 2)+(F x 1)

Nt

Where:

AWP = Average Weighted Mean

F = frequency

Nt = total number of respondents

F1 = number of respondents answered strongly agree

F2 = number of respondents answered agree

F3 = number of respondents answered disagree

F4 = number of respondents answered strongly disagree
