CHAPTER 3
METHODOLOGY
This chapter presents the research design, sample of the
study, data instrument, collection of data and statistical treatment
of data.
RESEARCH DESIGN
The study lies on the descriptive survey method. As Glass
and Hopkins defined it, it is a collection of quantitative information
that can be tabulated along a continuum in numerical form such as
scores on a test or the number of times a person chooses to use a
certain feature of multimedia program, or it can describe
categories of information such as gender or patterns of interaction
when using technology in a group situation. It gathers data that
describes events and then organizes, tabulates, depicts, and
describes data colllection.
The descriptive method was used to utilize the effects of
Handog-Kaibigan Scholarship Program to its scholars in Grade 11
ABM-01A to 04A student facilitators of Senior High School at
PHINMA UPang, Dagupan City.
This make descriptive appropriate for the study to determine
the effects of Handog-Kaibigan Scholarship Program to its Scholars
in Grade 11 ABM-01A to 04A student facilitators of Senior High
School at PHINMA UPang,Dagupan City. The information gathered
served as the bases for data interpretation of this study.
POPULATION AND LOCALE OF THE STUDY
This study was conducted at PHINMA Upang SHS Dagupan
City, Pangasinan. The respondents of this research were the
student facilitators of Grade 11-ABM 01A-04A at PHINMA UPANG
SHS Dagupan, 1ST Semester.
DATA GATHERING TOOLS
The main tool which was utilized in gathering the data
needed was a survey questionnaire to achieve the objectives of the
study. The questionnaire has two parts. The first part contained the
profile of the respondents in terms of a) name (optional) b) gender
c) course d) number of hours per week and the second part
containesd its effects.
DATA GATHERING PROCEDURES
Prior to the conduct of the study, the researchers formulated
a title which was approved by their adviser Mr. Cristian Mark Soy.
In order for the researchers to gather important data needed
for the completion of this study, the researchers used survey
questionnaires as a data gathering instrument. Survey
questionnaires were prepared, a letter addressed to the
respondents was made for permission purposes and was noted by
the adviser.
TREATMENT OF DATA
To be able to come up with a definite conclusion with regards to
this study, the researchers used the following statistical tools.
1) Frequency distribution and percentage was used in order to
answer the statement number 1 determining the highest
percentage of cases collected and the following profile
variable, namely
a) Name b) gender c) total number of hours of duty per
week.
FORMULA:
P= F/N X 100
Where:
P= percentage
F=frequency
N= no. of cases
100= constant value
2) For the level of effectiveness of the Handog-Kaibigan
Scholarship Program to its faacilitator scholars in Grade 11
ABM 01A-04A Class of PHINMA Upang Senior High School
Dagupan was utilized, where:
WM= Weighted mean
F4= number of respondents who answered “Strongly Agree”
F3= number of repondents who answered “Agree”
F2= number of respondents who answered “Disagree”
F1=number of respondents who answered “Strongly Disagree”
WM= 4F4+3F3+2F2+1F1/N
The following scale was used to interpret the obtained weighted
mean:
Scale Descriptive Equivalent
3.25-4.00 Strongly Agree
2.50-3.24 Agree
1.0-2.49 Disagree
1.00-1.74 Strongly Disagree
